If you’re looking for a fun themed activity perfect for celebrating Patriotic holidays and 4th of July Singing Time Ideas, I’m sharing my favorites here in this post!

10 Easy 4th of July Singing Time Ideas
1. Paper Plates Activities
Pick-up a set of cute star plates and try out one of these 3 fun ways to use the plates for a super simple themed singing time! There’s a mix of ways to sing, create a flag, or use a mix of red, white and blue actions! Visit this post to see all these 4th of July Paper Plates Activities.
2. 4th of July Symbols of Freedom
Use this darling Symbols of Freedom activity to sing through a variety of Patriotic themed songs from the Children’s Songbook. Or, include a fun mix of ways to sing that coordinate with the symbols.
3. 4th of July Pom-Poms
Another super cute Dollar Tree find was these mini pom-poms! They came in a set of 3 attached as a vase filler, but I just cup them apart to separate into individual pom poms the kids could hold. You can use these with traditional actions you’ve previously used or from any of our singing time lesson plans.
Some fun actions for Pom Poms:
- Clap them together
- Pat on your lap
- Clap – Lap – Clap – Lap
- Shake, shake, shake
- One arm up, one arm down – switch!
- Arms up high together, arms out to each side, arms down, arms in the center (4 count)
- Small toss and catch
- Shake really low, touching your toes
- Shake as high as you can, touch the sky
- Head, shoulders, knees, and toes
- Do the actions to YMCA
- Hold the two pom poms together, and move your arms in a circle from the top around and back to the top.
4. Stars and Stripes Sing or Dare Game
If you haven’t played a Sing or Dare game before, this is the PERFECT one to start with! It includes cute Patriotic trivia and challenges and the kids can pick to either do a SING challenge (stars) or a DARE Challenge (Stripes). Head over to grab our Stars & Stripes review game and printable!
5. Wave a Flag Patriotic Actions
Bring in cute mini flags (another win from a dollar store!). Start by making sure to tell the kids the importance of treating our flag with respect! We’ll need to be gentle and purposeful with our movements, not silly. And don’t let your flag touch the ground! Head over to see all the 4th of July Wave a Flag Patriotic Actions and printable!
6. Red, White & Blue Finger Lights
The Primary children will LOVE using Finger Lights to recreate the fun feelings of the 4th of July! Review all of your songs so far this year or pick a single song to review and use a mix of finger light actions that will help you sing your song choice over and over! 7. Pin the Star on the Flag
Draw a big American flag on a poster board or use our 6-page printable flag and play a fun game of Pin the Star on the Flag. You can change which song to sing or a silly way to sing based on if they land on a stripe or the stars.
8. Write or Color in the Flag
Post our write-in flag page below up on the board or draw a simple flag outline up on the whiteboard. Have the kids come up to write in something they love about America!
Use red, black or silver, and blue markers and write in the appropriate box! You might color a little line at the beginning of the red stripes to help the kids know which ones to write red in and which to write with the black or silver marker for your white stripes!
You can sing through any patriotic song, then have 2-4 helpers come up to start filling in your flag between times of singing it through again.
9. Patriotic Handbell Charts
A fun way to feel extra patriotic is to bring in your Merry Bell handbells! You can ring along with an assortment of hymns and songs perfect for Independence Day! Their bell charts and Play-Along DVD does not include songs from the Children’s Songbook, but it does includes some great classic songs!
You could see the entire Patriotic song list here or peek through the LDS Hymns selections to see if your song pick might be in that collection (such as Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel).

3. Reach the Flag Review Game
Adapt The Barefoot Chorister’s Capture the Flag game to be a fun themed way to review whatever songs you’re working on with a simple tie-in to the holiday! Hide a patriotic flag and then earn points for how well they are singing, participation, volume, etc. Award up to 5 points, which then equal steps!
Let the seeker take that many steps towards the flag. When they reach the flag, they’ll get to place it in a new spot and start again with a new helper!
4. Firecracker Bubble Wrap

5. American Match
