Do you like to include holidays in your Primary? I always think it’s fun and super relevant to include the big holidays because they are things the children are especially interested in and excited for! Holidays give the kids something to be excited about and look forward to!
Including Halloween ideas for Primary might be trickier than most, but don’t worry! I have gathered 26 easy Halloween Singing Time ideas that do have to be overly spooky or over-the-top Halloween to still include some themed fun for your lesson plans.

I’m so excited to get to share all these fun Halloween ideas for you to use in Primary Singing Time! Keep in mind, most of these ideas can easily be adapted to work with one song on repeat or to mix and match a variety of songs.

1. Trick Treat or Sing
You’ll love this totally flexible Trick Treat or Sing Singing Time idea! Use all 3 or pick your favorite 1 or 2 actions. I’ve included a whole bunch of fun dares, fun ways to sing actions, and more! Perfect to use with any song(s) you’d like.
2. Halloween Pumpkin Carvings
Sing through a mix of your choice of songs to review your Primary Program songs, introduce next year’s songs, or just sing through a variety of different songs to give your kiddos more exposure to the Children’s songbook and favorite songs. These adorable Halloween Pumpkin Carvings have different images “carved” into each paper pumpkin to represent your song picks. You can even light them up with a flashlight!
3. Candy for Courage

Write out the song titles or draw fun symbols for the kids to crack to decode which song to sing next with this fun Magic Messages Song Review! It’s perfect for adding in a subtle Halloween theme while focusing on your own songs. Just throw in some Halloween shapes, colors, and songs to add to the theme.
6. Fall Pumpkin Patch
This simple idea is a great way to include a cute Halloween or general Fall theme in Singing Time! You’ll need just a handful of small pumpkins or use our cute printable pumpkins. Then, play one of the several games included like match, find the pumpkin, pick a pumpkin, etc.
7. Song Monster
Bring in a song monster, or a whole series of monsters, to join you in Singing Time! You can hide a song title inside their mouth and let the Primary kiddos reach into their mouth to find the song to sing next. Or, use it as a traditional song monster to gobble up your song. 8. Halloween Bucket Toss
Use this Halloween Bucket Toss idea by taking ping pong balls and have the kids try to bounce the ball off the table into the trick or treat basket! It’s harder than it sounds, and so fun to try! 12. Finger Lights or Glowsticks!
Finger lights are a perfect prop to bring in for Halloween! It’s all about fun colorful lights and you can turn off your main classroom lights to help set the mood!
You can use finger lights and they work great, or maybe consider a fun swap of bringing in glowsticks! You can pick them up pretty cheap at the dollar store and let the kids take them home to continue practicing the songs!

1. Pumpkin Inspired Ways to Sing!
Doll up your pumpkins for Halloween with their own cute themed costumes to match a variety of Ways to Sing Primary Songs!
Olivia Snow made these super cute pumpkins with a different themed way to sing on the back of each. The kids get to pick a pumpkin, turn it around, and reveal the fun way to sing:
- Sing quietly
- Sing loudly
- Sing like an Opera singer
- Sing while conducting
- Sing like a country singer
- Sing with your BEST voice
2. “NOT” Witches Brew
I adore this cute idea by I Heart Primary Music. Just bring in your favorite Halloween cauldron and fill it with batting and hide your song titles inside! It’s simple and themed and you can put in ANY songs you want with ease!
3. DIY Candy Corn Cone Ring Toss

4. Halloween Cauldron of Songs
Hide random objects inside of a big cauldron full of orbeez water beads (they inflate with water!). Then write a number on each of your objects and tie that to a specific song to sing! See all the details in this Facebook post here.
5. Bowling for Pumpkins!
Corinne Buchanan made these darling toilet paper roll pumpkins! Just grab some toilet paper rolls and wrap them in tissue paper or cut up a cheap dollar store table cloth to wrap them with. Then, let the kids knock over the tower with a bean bag to reveal a song name on the bottom!
6. Halloween Crack the Code
Use any song title with a series of symbols in place of each letter and a guide – then let the kids decode the song title! You can use it with a specific song title or write your children a special message with the code and let them remove an icon and add the correct letter while you sing your songs of choice. 7. Pull Jack’s Tooth
I just adore this big pumpkin poster with removable teeth by I Heart Primary Music. Just recycle a big cardboard box and turn him into a big Jack O’ Lantern. Let the kids pull out one of his teeth to pick a song or a way to sing! See all the directions over on her blog.
8. Monster Mash Songs
Get creative and upcycle an old laundry detergent tub for Halloween! Cheryl Thompson made this adorable Frankenstein and stashed a variety of monsters inside. Each monster had a different song number to sing.
9. Ghost “Boo-ling”
How cute is this idea to go bowling for ghosts with this super easy prep activity. You’ll just create some cute cups from plastic cups and write a song name (or number) on the inside of the cup. Sing whichever songs are knocked over, then bowl again! See the directions over on Mas & Pas website.
10. Make a Jack O Lantern
Ashlie Wayment shared a cute idea to let the Primary kiddos help you decorate a pumpkin in Primary! Just start with a blank pumpkin and a bunch of different pumpkin eyes, nose, mouth, and accessories to choose from. See her original idea here!
11. Halloween Coin Toss
This next idea by Mollie Zundel is a cute way to include a ton of different songs in your Halloween singing time!
Just include a song title (or song and verse number if you want to split them up) into each cup. Then, let the children toss a coin, bean bag, or other small object. Mollie used pirate doubloons! See her original post here for more details.
12. Conduct with a Wand
Holli Whitehorn shared a fun idea to bring in a Harry Potter style wand and give each child their own “training wand”. 13. Make a Magic Potions Recipe!
