After introducing Mother, I Love You with a mother match, we’ll be reinforcing the flow and keywords in this song with a fun movement words activity! This action game will point out the repeating keywords in this song and bring emphasis to certain keywords.

Mother, I Love You Movement Words
To start, I’ll sing through the song once or twice together as a group. Then, I’ll challenge one side of the room to sing it, then the other. Whichever side sings best (aka – loud but not rowdy and knows the most words) will get to pick an action type for our Movement Words game.
I created cute action cards that the kiddos can pick from. You can have them face down so it is random, or just let them pick their favorite action type (or color!)
- Tap Toes
After they’ve picked our movement, we’ll talk about the word to substitute. You can do the movement in place of the word or in addition to saying the word. In Senior, I really recommend doing the action in place of the word as the kids love that! But either way works great for Junior Primary.
In Junior Primary, we’ll pick just one of these words to replace and use it a couple of times in a row before switching to a different movement word. In Senior Primary, you can let the kids pick the keyword each time to add to the challenge.
I have this dice I picked up that lets you easily slip in different cards into the slots. I’ve used numbers for name that tune, actions, songs, and other things making the dice so very handy! This set is similar to the one I have, but looks sturdier. Sometimes, the papers slip out the end of mine.
- Mother / “You” (referring to Mother)
- I / Me
So, for example, if they choose the word “love” each time you would have sang the word “love” while singing through the song you’ll add the action! Clap or snap or dab, whatever the chosen action was, each time that word comes up throughout the song.
Movement Action Cards Printable
Here, you can grab the 1-page printable with 6 different fun movement actions! Just cut them out and slip inside your dice pockets then roll to add an action in place of the keywords.
