I’m excited about this simple but really meaningful singing time idea to teach Redeemer of Israel Word Map activity! It helps break down the difficult words in this song in a more digestible format for the young kids and they’ll love visualizing the song and how all the lyrics connect with this interconnecting word map!
I have been having so much fun creating singing time ideas for Redeemer of Israel. I brainstormed about 15 minutes and came up with some really fun ideas I’ll be sharing over the next week or 2.

How to Play:
Sing through Redeemer of Israel (flip chart here) once, before introducing the word map.
Ask the children: Who is this song about? Hint: It’s the first word of the song! Yes – our Redeemer! Who is our Redeemer? (Jesus) and what does Redeemer mean (someone who saves others).
Put Redeemer right in the center of the whiteboard. Then sing through the song again.
Show the kids your first symbol, the red smiley face. What word in the song might this represent? (Delight). What does it mean to delight? (Find great pleasure, aka be happy!)
Continue adding symbols and asking a simple question, when appropriate to help explain big words, while adding lines to connect these key concepts back to the Savior, the chart below shows an example!
- Have the kids draw the symbols instead of printing them out. Who can draw a pillar for me? How would you draw “delight”? etc.
- Divide the room into 2-6 groups and have them take turns going around the room singing their part of the song by color! You can double up colors or have them alternate lines depending on your Primary size.
- Add a simple hand action to match the inner most 5 symbols (delight, call, shadow, pillar, king)
- Mix up all the symbols and words up on the board and have the kids help you put them into the correct order.
- Add the symbols first around the board then ask the kids to solve for what connects each of these actions? Add Redeemer last to make a strong illustrative point!
