This is such a fun, and unique, singing time lesson plan for We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet. You’ll have the kids help you cross out and get rid of all the nonsense words mixed in with the verses.
This is a fun spin-off idea from an Eraser Pass game! In that style game, you pick from 3 similar words the correct word. So instead of a straight line up like that, we’ve mixed it up and threw in a bunch of nonsense words right in the middle throughout the verse!

a Prophet Gibberish Eraser

Tackle this unique spin on eraser pass with these gibberish words! The kids will get a good laugh out of these “nonsense” verses.
How to Play:

Sing through We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet first before you introduce the activity.
Post the posters below that cover the 1st verse of the song. Tell the children that you were trying to write out the words, but looks like you got confused. Do the posters look right? Can you help fix them for the Junior/Senior primary?
Ask the children to watch the posters while you sing through again and see if they can figure out what went wrong. After singing through, ask for solutions! You’re looking for the answer to cross out all the extra gibberish words. Ask for an example of one wrong word. Cross it out.
Call up 2-3 volunteers. Tell them their job will be to cross out 2-3 extra words while you sing through the song. Check on your progress and call new helpers after each time through the song. Then continue, until all the extra gibberish words are removed.
Tell the children how wonderful they did, fixing your mistakes! Thank them for their help! You can remind the children that sometimes we don’t always understand what the Prophet or our leaders ask us to do. But if we listen with our hearts and ask the Spirit for help, we can hear their message clearly!
Adaptions for Junior Primary:
Work on the gibberish posters together as a group. Let the kids pick one poster (just vote on a number 1-8) and fix the poster after each time through the song. You can sing just the phrase to check your work, and then sing through the song before starting on the next poster.
You can also sing the phrase alone with the gibberish words aloud and tell the kids to raise their hand to stop you when sometime doesn’t sound right. Then, you’ll get to repeat the phrase over and over! When it’s right, have the kids sing it with you and move on to the next section.
Extension Activities:
- Divide the kids into groups by color. Have the kids sing their colored poster. Rotate the colors so they get to try a different part of the song.
- Do a different movement action, for each color. Maybe walk in place, sit, stand, hop, tap their head, etc. Start by picking one action for all the blue words, for example, then add additional actions for each of the colors to extend singing through the song 4-5 more times!
