Are you looking for a Halloween Singing Time activity that’s SUPER easy? You’ll love this activity that includes adorable bats to help you pick songs to sing. I’ve also included fun Bat-themed ways to sing the kids will think are so much fun!
Halloween Bats – Pick a Song
Ask the children to see if they can name an animal that is awake at night and likes to eat bugs. What am I? (A bat!)
God has made so many unique and interesting animals, hasn’t he? Today, we will see if we can find bats hiding around the room.
Write a variety of song titles or numbers on your bats. Let the children pick one of the bats from around the room and bring it up to the board.
Sing through the song that was selected.
Continue to seek for one of the bats and sing the pre-selected song on it’s wings!
Extension Activities:
Number of Notes: Have a child collect as many bats as they can while you sing through a song. Play that many notes for your next song and have the children try to name the next song!
Once they’ve named the tune, invite a child to step out of the Primary and then quickly hide the bats again. Then have the child return to the Primary room and sing through your next song.
Trio of Bats: Hide a variety of different bats in different colors around the room. Have the children pick a song that coordinates with a color. Have the children look under their chair to see if they have the matching color bat.
If they do, they get to come up front and help you lead the song. They can flap bat wings or sing with their eyes closed or lead with a magic wand – or any other fun ways you can come up with!
Sing Batty! Match each color bat with a different bat themed way to sing.
- Black – Make ears like Batman. Hold your hand up flat on the side of your head.
- Red – Sing the song fast! Like how quickly a bat can fly!
- Orange – Clap on keywords and “catch” to the bugs!
- Yellow – Hop on the last word of every line.
- Green – Try to sing the words upside down! Flip over your lyrics or flip chart.
- Blue – Pretend to fly! Hold your arms out to the sides and sway with the music.
- Purple – Bats have thumbs and fingers! Drum along with the beat.
- Grey – Turn off the lights and close your eyes and sing in the dark!
- White – Wrap your arms tight around your body like wings tucked in.
