I’m thrilled to be teaching Tell Me the Stories of Jesus Singing Time ideas in this post will help! It’s one I haven’t had a chance to do with the kids yet since my time as a Primary music leader.
I also think it’s just about the perfect song for this year’s theme of learning from the Savior. This song is a reminder to us parents that we have a super important role of teaching these children about Jesus — and they are often eager to learn!

A perfect place to get started with teaching this fun song, head over and grab our Tell Me the Stories of Jesus Flip Chart! I don’t use flip charts often, but I always have one on hand for each of my play songs. There’s lots of ways to use a flip chart for singing time, review, introducing the new song and even for the primary program.

How do I teach Tell Me the Stories of Jesus?
An easy way to teach Tell Me the Stories of Jesus the first week is with this Pick a Picture activity. The children will find the missing picture for the next line of the song. Older children will like the challenge of an eraser pass game to remove the wrong words until only the correct lyrics are left.
Next, you can sing through the song lots of time while having fun by teaching with this crack the code activity or bring in your rhythm sticks to sing with the beat.

1. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Be Like Him
Try your best to be like the Savior, just like his disciples did, in this fun lesson plan based on a popular PE game, Captain’s Deck. With a series of simple actions, they’ll try their best to follow your lead in this Tell Me the Stories of Jesus Be Like Him activity.
2. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Crack the Code
Get those logical thinkers activated in this fun Crack the Code game! With a series of dots, dashes, and a symbol for a long held notes you’ll be painting the lyrics out in a logical pattern for the children to solve! It’s a melody map of sorts with a unique theme! You can draw out the pattern on large poster boards or use the whiteboard or the printables with different color icons or black and white option.
3. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Sermon Video
What better way to very literally showcase all that this song is about then by sharing stories from Jesus!? In this lesson plan, you’ll pick your favorite Bible Video to share along with singing Tell Me the Stories of Jesus. It’s a great way to also tie in the Come, Follow Me curriculum with what the kids are learning throughout the week.
4. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Rhythm Sticks
Try out the tricky (or simple) Tell Me the Stories of Jesus rhythm sticks pattern to have so much fun while learning and reviewing this song! I’ve even got a video here, to show you the pattern.
5. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Eraser Pass
Engage the kids with this Tell Me the Stories of Jesus eraser pass game to find the perfect words to fit the song! This is a great activity for the first verse but I’ve also included the second verse as well. They’ll have to choose words to eliminate until only the correct words are left. You can write them right up on the whiteboard and literally erase them or print out the printable and grab a large sharpie to cross out the wrong words!
6. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Team Band
Create your own mini band in the Primary room with this idea uses different activities for egg shakers, rhythm sticks, and jingle bell bracelets! (Feel free to substitute with other instruments, should you need to). Everyone will get a turn to feel the different rhythm patterns in this Tell Me the Stories of Jesus Team Band activity and it’s a great time!

As a perfect alternative to the Eraser Pass game above, this fill in the blank activity is perfect for Junior Primary! The Tell Me the Stories of Jesus Pick a Picture idea lets children help pick the right picture and fill in the song as you work your way through learning the verse.
8. Tell Me the Stories of Jesus – Color the Stories
Create your own storybook with a fun set of coloring pages that tell the story of Jesus with some of the key stories from Jesus’ life. Let the kids color in the pictures and then assemble as a storybook and flip through the songbook as you sing the song. Engage their natural senses with this lesson plan built all around listening! They’ll get to hear a variety of short sound clips and try to identify the sounds.
