My Primary group absolutely loves acting, it’s always their first pick! This easy Come Follow Me fisherman acting idea is perfect for the song because it has very minimal costume changes (which take the most time) and there is only one small speaking line! Still, everyone will want a turn to be the star!

Come Follow Me Simple Acting Activity

This will be a very simple acting activity. It will just need a few pretty pieces of fabric (I plan to borrow these from my friend) and one very simple line will be spoken!

I’m planning to simply call an adult male teacher to represent Christ. Then, I’ll ask 3-4 children to be fishermen. *Keep in mind a child should not act as Christ.

I plan to make a very simple cardboard boat that my fishers can sit behind. The kids will also have a very simple costume of just a colorful fabric as a headdress and band to hold it in place. I may even just use my simple music scarves they can drape over their head and as fishing “nets”. Just use what you have!

Christ will say to the fishers, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt 4:19).

The fishers will leave their boat and follow Christ and the group of actors will walk around the room while we sing the song.

I’ll let the kids take turns acting as the fishermen which will give us lots of opportunities for repetition!

You could also expand on this lesson plan by adding a couple of other scenes from Christ’s life where he invites people to follow him!

Come Follow Me Fishermen Acting Printable Script Singing Time

I created a very simple printable that you can keep with your weekly planning to help you remember the basic plan for this lesson, what props you might want to prepare, and also a small guide you can give to the actors to help them with their parts. You certainly don’t need to print this, if you want to just jot down the basic script, but if it’s helpful by all means!
