How to Play:

Sing through I Will Be Valiant (flipchart here) once before introducing this activity.

Post the Icon Poster up on the whiteboard. Or add in one of the variations in the extension ideas below to mix up how you start the activity!

Ask the kids to put their hands up in the air when they think they spotted what the first symbol stands for. Freeze singing or continue through the verse. Then, ask one of the children with their hands up what the word was. If they need some help, ask another friend to gather a few ideas until you get the correct keyword for the first icon (servants).

"I

You guys are so good at this! Let’s solve the next one! Continue singing through the song and decoding the keywords for each of the icons. This will help build up the song from the beginning and is a really great way to learn the song for the first time!

When you have decoded all the symbols, have the kids pop up in their chair and quickly sit back down, like you would for Popcorn Popping for each symbol when the word comes up!

2 Fun Extension Activities:

"I

Out of Order: Scramble up the icon posters either with the large sized posters or by cutting the smaller poster up into pieces or strips. Sing through the song while a child works to unscramble the correct order.

It may take 2-3 times through the song to get it in the correct order as there are between 5-13 pieces, depending on if you break by the full row, the line of the song, or the individual symbols.

"I

Split Singing: Divide the room into 2 groups. Draw a line up on the board and let the kids rearrange the symbols to one of the 2 halves of the board.

Each side sings the line for their symbols! If you split the matching color symbols – then both groups sing if the symbols are divided into both groups.

Keep them in order to by height if they need help with staying on track, or point to the symbols that’s next to show who’s turn it is to sing.
