More Jesus Finger Lights
Finger lights are such fun manipulatives to bring in to primary! They are relatively inexpensive and make for an extra fun singing time! They are so fun and take up hardly any room at all in your primary storage!
Finger lights can be SO much fun to bring into the Primary room! You can pickup a set of finger lights for really cheap on Amazon here. It’s a good idea to add a dab of hot glue to keep the battery compartment shut. Just search this blog for more ideas for using them with your Primary children.
For this activity, I’ve created a simple pattern with finger light actions for the verse and chorus of this song. Let’s jump right in with the verse actions!

I love to start a new activity by singing through the song once first, to help transition to a new activity and sneak in one more repetition before starting an activity. Grab our More Jesus Flip chart to help the kids get a refresher on the song lyrics before you start!
After passing out all the lights, put the finger lights poster on the board with the visuals and point to the first action. Starting with your light down low, bring it up as you sing, “I wake up every morning.” Wave your light like a rainbow as you sing, “With a prayer in my soul.”
One way we can show love to Heavenly Father is by being grateful! Draw a heart for the line, “Thanking God for my blessings” and repeat the rainbow shape for the line, “And for help as I grow.”

Then, swiggle your light downward as you sing, “No matter what my day brings.” Cover your light using your non-dominant hand. Who helps bring joy to our day? That’s right – Jesus! Uncover your light! “I need more Jesus.”
Then, point in each direction, starting with left, then right, then up as you sing, “A little more light, a little more love, a little more hope.” Repeat this sequence for the second half of the chorus. Pretty easy, right?

Finger Lights Verse Pattern:
We’ll be using 6 simple actions for the verse – one for each line. Here’s a quick outline:
- Slowly Bring Light Up – “I wake up every morning”
- Rainbow Shape – “With a prayer in my soul”
- Heart – “Thanking God for my blessings”
- Rainbow Shape – “And for help as I grow”
- Swiggle Down – “No matter what my day brings”
- Hide Light – “I know just who I need”
Finger Lights Chorus Pattern: *Repeat 2X
The chorus pattern is super easy! Simply follow the 4 actions below for the first four lines, then repeat them for the last four lines of the chorus.
- Uncover Light & Shine High – “I need more Jesus”
- Shine Left – “Little more light, “When I’m by his side”
- Shine Right – “Little more love,” “He lifts my heart up”
- Shine Up – “Little more hope,” “Fills me with joy”

Extension Activities:
- Try this pattern with rhythmic instruments! Bring in egg shakers or jingle bells and divide the children into groups or “bands” and perform the song for each other. Or, assign one part of the pattern to each group and have them come up with their own rhythm pattern.
- Assign one side of the room to the verse and one side to the chorus. Then, switch!
- Pick two different colored finger lights and pass them around the room. Have two helpers, one of each light stand at the front of the room. When the blue light is up, all blue lights shine! When the red light is up, all red lights shine!
