This is another song pick I have planned way later in the year, in December. I am simplifying our program songs for this year and doing the 1st verse only, to save time for the Primary Program. With that in mind, I’ll have plenty of time to teach my November (Search, Ponder and Pray) and December picks earlier in the year and have them ready for the program!
I began teaching Choose the Right Way in January and will continue learning this song along side other primary songs all year long on rotation! See how I plan a year of singing time lessons. Today, I have a whole bunch of fun Primary singing time ideas for this great song.

1. Choose the Right Way – Hidden Picture
Your Primary children will love uncovering the message in this Choose the Right Way Hidden Picture! This is the perfect activity for teaching the first verse. Let the kids come up and color in the color-coded letter boxes until they can read the message it reveals. Then, you can share the meaning of the song lyrics in a purposeful way! I even have a large print format that uses 9 pages so it’s poster board sized for a large Primary room.

4. Choose the Right Way – Stand Alone Video

5. Choose the Right Way – Clap Instead
This is a super fun and really simple way to add in lots and lots of repetition singing! In this Choose the Right Way Clap Instead activity, the kids will clap instead of select keywords, but don’t worry they’re still singing them in their head to follow along with what comes next! You could even cut them out into word strips and have the children help you get them back into the correct order.
6. Choose the Right Way – Choose Missing Word
Use this missing words activity to easily repeat Choose the Right Way over and over while adding fun actions and movement as they try to puzzle their way through the song figuring out what words are missing. This is the best way for engaging logical learners in you activity!

Your Primary kids will love getting silly – but with a purpose – in this Choose the Right Way Mirror Your Partner activity! Have them follow along the correct way, then try the “wrong” or silly way instead! If you have extra time, let the different class groups each take a turn coming up with a challenge with a crazy thing or two in the mix!
8. Choose the Right Way – Warning Sounds
Introduce a variety of different short audio clips to talk about the powerful impact of sound. How can sound help us Choose the Right Way? Can the young children think of a still small sound that helps direct us and guide us?
9. Choose the Right Way – Song Story
Pick out a story from The Friend magazine and add in lines of the song throughout the story! I really like this short and sweet story about cheating that was written by a 7 year old, called Cheating is Poisonous.
Choose the Right Way Song Story
When I was in first grade, I had a spelling test every Friday. One week I practiced really hard, but I still couldn’t get the word poisonous right.
Sing: There’s a right way to live and be happy; It is choosing the right ev’ry day.
When it was time to take the test, I decided to write the word poisonous on the back of the paper I used to cover my test. I quickly put the paper in my desk so that I wouldn’t be tempted to cheat, but I secretly took it out again when it was almost time for the word poisonous.
Sing: I am learning the teachings of Jesus; They will help me and show me the way.
As I thought about the word poisonous, I had a strong feeling that cheating was poison to my spirit. So I put the paper back in my desk for good! I still didn’t spell the word poisonous right, but I felt great and peaceful inside about not cheating and for choosing the right.
Sing: Choose the right way and be happy. I must always choose the right.
