This color code uses 4 different colors to represent different words that come up frequently in Give Said the Little Stream. Have the kids work together to crack the code as they review this sweet song in primary!

Give Said the Little Stream Color Code
Start by singing through the first verse and chorus of Give Said the Little Stream (flip chart).
Print out our color code included later in this post! You’ll find a key with each color and a code for the first verse and chorus.
Post a few of the color code posters on the board. Have them look at the mixed-up colors and words. What does each color mean? See if the children can figure out what each color stands for.
Perhaps you might start with just one of the colors. ASK: How may times does the color green show up in the song? Is there a word that we sing a lot in this song?
Then, sing through the song again to give the kids some clues! After singing, see if they can solve for another color. Continue singing while they try to crack the rest of the colors!
Once the kids have cracked the code, split the room into 4 groups. Assign one of the colors to each group.
Sing through the song again, with each group singing the black words and their assigned color! Switch colors and continue singing until everyone has had a chance to sing each color.
As you can see, this activity is a pretty simple way to get in lots of repetition while giving the kids a challenge! If you want to add to this idea even further, keep scrolling for 3 additional ways to use this activity!
Color Code:
This color code is pretty simple! This code uses 4 colors to replace different words in the song. With the exception of “Yellow,” the colors represent one single word in the song.
- GREEN: “Give”
- BLUE: “Stream”
- YELLOW: Descriptive Words – “Little / Hurried / Small / Greener” (These are words that describe HOW or WHAT)
- ORANGE: Nouns – People & Things – “Hill / Fields / Flowers / Blossoms / God / Others”
- PINK: “Singing”
3 Extension Activities:
Play a game of 4 corners! Place a piece of colored cardstock in each corner. Have the children choose a corner to start in. While you sing, point to each corner as its color comes up in the song. Have the kids rotate clockwise. This I Want to Live the Gospel Four Corners is a great example of this type of activity!
Write in all the missing words! Have the children come up and fill in each colored box with the missing lyrics.
Create a fifth group to sing the black words. Have them sing the words in between the color codes.
