You’ll love all the movement and fun of this His Eye is on the Sparrow Dance Scarves singing time activity! You’ll follow simple movements that match the song lyrics that help reinforce the words as you learn the song with fun movements!
This is just one great activity to help you teach His Eye is on the Sparrow (archives) as one of the new hymns to teach for the New Testament Primary Songs list!

His Eye is on the Sparrow Dance Scarves
Sing through His Eye is on the Sparrow with a flip chart once, before pulling out your dance scarves.
Introduce the dance scarves pattern by quickly doing a demo of the pattern for the first verse as you sing through the verse together.
Now, pass out dance scarves and have everyone join in with your following along with the dance scarves pattern as you sing through the song.

Praise how well the kids did – you’ve got it! Great job! Let’s add the chorus! Show the couple of new actions for the chorus and start by singing the chorus with the dance scarves actions. Now begin at the beginning of the song through the verse and chorus.
Now, to add even more repetition and fun, invite the kiddos from one Primary class to come up front and help to lead the actions. Anyone who would like to from the class can come lead the actions! Take turns going class by class to help lead!

Dance Scarves Actions for the 1st Verse:
- Low Arch – Hold one corner and swing the scarf from right to left in a low arch
- Downward Swish – Start shoulder height and sweep right to left, going lower
- Heart – Draw a big heart shape
- House – Draw a big house shape
- Spiral – Start with a big circle and continue winding inward
- Figure 8 – Draw a figure 8 or infinity symbol
- Bird Wing – Start high and swing up and down like flapping your wing
- Sun Visor – Hold the scarf over your eyes, with one hand on each corner
Extension Activities:
- You can swap and teach your verse of choice or run through the entire song! I’ve included a unique pattern for each of the verses that connect with the song lyrics.
- Invite the kids to help you come up with actions for the additional verses to personalize the pattern!
- Try swapping to ribbon wands or egg shakers for the additional verses to keep the pattern fun and interesting. Divide the Primary into 2 or 3 groups. Have each group play with a different manipulative! Then, swap instruments and sing again!
