The Priesthood is Restored Sand Blocks
Your primary children will love this fun rhythm activity! With just a few cheap pool noodles, you can create your own sand blocks to use in primary! For this activity, you’ll need one set of sand blocks for each child.
This rhythm pattern only includes 3 actions that are used several times throughout the song. I’ve included a printable version with visuals, but you will catch on to this pattern in no time!

Start with a quick review of The Priesthood is Restored (lyrics here) before passing out sand blocks. I always like to start with the music to help invite the Spirit and encourage reverence. This can be super helpful when you are introducing exciting instruments.
After singing through the song once, tell the children to listen carefully as you demonstrate a swish with your sand blocks. To do this, simply hold the sand blocks with the flat sides facing each other. Then, rub the sides together to create a fun “swish” noise!
The next action we’ll be using is a simple tap. Sing or speak each syllable of the phrase “the priesthood is re-“ as you alternate SWISH – TAP/TAP. Repeat this rhythm, tapping as you hold out the long note of “stored.”

Then, tap 4 times as you sing “the truth made known to” and swish as you sing “man.” Can you try just these lines with me?
Pass out sand blocks and have the kids try this pattern a few times. Pretty easy, right? Are you ready to learn a new action?
As you sing, “God has spoken” pat your knees with your sand blocks twice. Finish the phrase with a swish on “to the earth.”
For the last line, we’ll be using all 3 actions! Tap on each word “pow’r is,” then switch to a pat for the word “here.” As you hold out “again,” swish your blocks!
Do you remember all the actions? Let’s try the whole song! Have some fun tapping and swishing your sand blocks as you review this song together in primary!

- Tap: This action is super simple! Just tap the flat sides of your sand blocks together.
- Pat: This action is similar to the tap, but instead of tapping your sand blocks together, tap them on your knees!
- SWISH / TAP – TAP (Repeat 2X) – “The Priesthood is re-stored”
- TAP – TAP 2X / SWISH – 4 Taps on “truth made known to / Swish on “man”
- PAT – PAT / SWISH – “God has spo-ken / Swish on “to the earth”
- TAP – TAP / PAT / SWISH – “pow’r is here” / Swish on “-gain”

Extension Activities:
- Swap out the taps for another fun action. Remember to keep Here are some examples: like tap high, tap low,
- Use taps for all short notes and swish on longer notes, like “restored,” “man” “to the earth,” “pow’r is here” “again.”
- Alternate swish/tap on each word of the song! Listen carefully because some words take up more than one note.
