6 Easy Thanksgiving Turkey Trot Activities for Kids

Are you looking for a fun way to stretch and get the wiggles out after all that Thanksgiving eating? You’ll love these 6 fun and easy Thanksgiving Turkey Trot movement activities for kids!

6 Thanksgiving Turkey Trot Kids Activities

Have some fun with any of these Thanksgiving themed physical movement activities as you sing your song of choice or a mix of songs.

1. Turkey Lurkey Hokey Pokey Dance

Just like a traditional hokey pokey dance, but this time you’ll use your turkey body parts – your wing (arm bent at the elbow), leg, feathers (your bum, back, or both arms together), gobble (your neck), and whole turkey (your whole body).

2. Turkey Freeze Dance

Sing through your song but change the dance move with a card or by calling out a new action. Here are some fun actions you can include:

• Flap Your Arms – Bend your arms at your elbows and flap your elbows up and down
• Wobble – Stand in one spot and wobble your upper half of your body back and forth
• Gobble – Pinch your fingers to your thumbs in an eating motion
• Turn Around – Make one complete turn in your spot
• Shake Your Tail – Shake your bottom
• Strut – Walk in Place
• Freeze – Stop where you are and freeze in that pose

3. Turkey Slide

Dance with this Thanksgiving twist on the Electric slide. Wobble to the left, Stomp. Wobble to the right, Stomp. Flap your arms. Gobble with your hands. Then quarter turn and start again. An alternative to the quarter turn is to have everyone just make one slow turn and end facing back to the front if spacing or rows are an issue.

4. Turkey Trot Race

Hold a ball between your knees and try to get from one side of the room to the other, without dropping the ball. Play it relay style with several children per team that start on opposite sides of the room that move the ball back and forth.

5. Turkey Walk

Play a classic game of a cake walk, with cute turkeys as your place holders on the ground instead. Have the children walk around the circle and when the music ends, they need to be standing on a numbered turkey! Call out a random number and they win a small prize such as a sticker or the chance to be the next caller.

6. Turkey Obstacle Course

Make a small obstacle course at the front of your Primary room. Have the children start on one end and have to fly (jump) over a blanket that represents mud. Then, they will try to strut like a turkey to their next location.

Mark an X on the ground and have them crouch down with their knees to their chest. Grab a dance scarf at this station to tuck into a back pocket or around your neck as a colorful feather. Next, they’ll stand and run quickly to their next spot.

Mark a square on the ground and inside have an assortment of bugs. Have them line up the matching bugs. Now make your best turkey gobble call to end the run.
