The kids won’t be able to resist learning the fun Book of Mormon Stories song or singing it for review with this fun and engaging idea! You’ll use this Book of Mormon Stories Arrange the Melody map pages to try to find the correct order of the melody as you sing through the song line by line or as an entire song.
This song is only included in the Book of Mormon Primary Songs list so I like to included it, even if it’s just as a wiggle song while the Primary children are coming into your Primary room.

Book of Mormon Stories Arrange the Melody
Sing through Book of Mormon Stories with this flip chart once, before introducing this activity. Tell the children to listen carefully to the melody while they sing so they’ll be ready for today’s challenge!
Dramatically drop your melody map pages (that have been previously shuffled) and exclaim oh no! Can you help me put our melody map back in order? Post the melody map up on the board in a random shuffled up order.
Tell the children we will sing through the song again, but this time let’s search for clues and see if we can find which one we think might be first! Sing through the song the whole way through. Who thinks they might know which one goes first? The kids can raise their hand if they have a guess.
Sing the first line of the song “Book of Mormon stories that my” following along with the notes on the poster they picked (it doesn’t have to be perfect pitch, just follow the rise and fall of the notes.
Hm… what do you think… did that fit?
If yes, awesome! Praise what good detectives they are!
If it’s not quite right, say uh-oh, that sounded pretty strange. Can you help me sing that part of the song? Sing just that first measure without the piano. Which one do you think now?
Continue to work your way through the song singing the full song, picking a poster, and then singing the line to check what you found as you arrange the melody back in order.
- For a harder challenge, flip a few posters upside down (So the low-B note is at the top of the page instead of the bottom).
- For a fun added challenge / help, I’ve included a version with color coded words to help the kids more easily pull out some of the distinct words and notes as they sing through the song a few times, they’ll start to recognize that a certain word or phrase might fit one of those spots!
- Blue – Book of Mormon
- Red – Stories / History
- Orange = My / Me / Self
- Yellow = People (Teacher, Lamanites, Fathers, They, Their)
- Green = Time words – Ancient / Long Ago
- Purple = Place words = Sea / Land
- Teach the song one line, and one melody poster, at a time! Build up the melody and the posters as you go as a great way to teach the song the first time through.
- Let the kids pick one of the melody map pages to sing with “Oooohs” instead!
