You’re going to love this fun perfectly themed activity to help you review Book of Mormon Stories as you sing through a variety of different verses that you might want to teach this year. Or, just to have some fun with the song even if you won’t actually learn all the verses to talk about the different scripture heroes!
You’ll use these Book of Mormon Stories Pick a Verse cards to randomly pick a verse to sing and then learn about the heroes story!

Book of Mormon Stories Pick a Verse
How to Play:
Print and cut out each of the verse cards. Decide which verses you want to review based on the verses your Primary has learned. You can also include all the verse and just use this Book of Mormon Stories flip chart to help with the lyrics.
Put the cards up in a random order on the board.
Sing through the first verse using the Book of Mormon Stories flip chart and then have the children try to guess which symbol matches your verse. Quickly review why that symbol matches and what the verse is about. Then continue onto the next verse.
Work your way through each of the verses you’ve learned so far guessing the symbol. It’s okay to keep any extras to make the selection a little harder. Then, you can continue on with one of the additional game ideas below.
Verse Symbols Guide:
- Verse 1 – Boat – Nephi – Sailed to the promised land.
- Verse 2 – Flag – Lamanites – Wanted liberty & freedom.
- Verse 3 – Light – Alma the Younger – Angel turned him to the light.
- Verse 4 – Fire – Abinadi – Died by fire for his testimony.
Extension Activities:
Playdoh Creations: Bring in small tub of playdoh an let a helper or one class shape their playdoh after the verse card. Then, let the rest of the Primary try to guess the symbol for the verse.
Verse Number Picker Cards: Shuffle the number cards and draw a number card. Sing through the verse based on the number selected. Then, have them guess what symbol you might have picked for the verse from all of the available cards (up on the board).
Name the Verse: Shuffle all the symbol cards and have them pick a symbol. Can they guess which verse it belongs with (name the hero the verse is about)? Great job! Sing that verse together.
Match 2 (or 3): Play a game of match with the symbols, names, or numbers – or all 3. Have them flip over cards until they find a match of 2 (or 3) that coordinate. You can use the color versions for an easier game or pair the color symbols with black and white names/numbers for a harder challenge! When they find a match – sing that verse!
Best Singers: Divide the room and award the card to the side that sings out the best!
