When We’re Helping Pick a Picture
How to Play:
Sing through When We’re Helping (flip chart here) once, before introducing this activity.
Tel the children you need help picking the right word. Sing through the song pausing at the missing words. Hold up the signs and have the kids pick which one is correct. Sing through that line again holding up the correct picture and singing the full line of the song.
Keep building up the song one line at a time picking the correct picture and adding in lots of singing repetition as you learn this song!
There’s lots of other ways to play instead, try one of these alternate activities if you’re looking for a different game or want to play with the visuals again on a different week.
Alternate Activities:
Picture Blanks: Write the lyrics on the board, leaving spaces for the keywords included here: helping, happy, sing, mother, love. Scatter all 10 pictures all around the board and have them find the correct missing word and add it in its place.
Memory Seek: Play it like a game of memory match. Pause at the missing words and flip over the pictures until they think it’s right. If they think it’s right on the incorrect one, you can try singing it and say nope – that’s silly and doesn’t fit, let’s try again!
Wrong Picture: Put all the WRONG pictures in order on the board. Tell them you think you got the words messed up. Can they help you fix the wrong words and replace them with the right ones? Hand the child a picture and ask them where it might go to replace the wrong picture. Cover it up with the right picture. Sing through the song to see if it’s right!
Pick From 2: Line up both pictures in order. Sing through the song and then have a child come up to pick which picture is correct and which one is not from one pair. Remove the “wrong” picture from the board leaving only one left. Continue to sing and remove until you have just the correct pictures left on the board.
Unscramble: Put just the correct pictures on the board. Have a child help you unscramble them while you sing. Mix them up and play again!
