What better way to learn The Books of the Book of Mormon song then by unscrambling each of the books and helping the kids learn which order they go in as they sing along with the melody. This fun Books of the Book of Mormon Order of Books activity includes each of the different books on their own cut out card that can be rearranged until they find just the right order while adding in lots of fun singing repetition.
This song is the perfect choice to help you kickstart the 2024 Book of Mormon Song List for Come Follow Me this year so your children will be able to better follow along and find the scriptures when they know the order!
The Books of the Book of Mormon Order of Books
Sing through the Books of the Book of Mormon (flip chart here) once first, before introducing this activity.
Put all the book titles from within the Book of Mormon up on the board in a random order all mixed up.
Invite a child to come up and try to rearrange as many as he can while you sing through the song. They will probably only get a couple the first time through.
Continue with a new helper and let them pick up where you left off trying to find more books to put in the right order.
When they’re all in order, sing the song in super-slow motion and point to each book as you sing.
Then, sing again at regular speed before transitioning to a new activity.
Line by Line – Another way to play is to teach the song line by line, using these book order cards. Teach the first line of the song and add those books to the board – 1 Nephi and 2 Nephi. Then sing the line of the song together. Continue to teach a line of the song, add the books, then sing it together always starting at the beginning.
Envelope Unscramble – Use the cards as a fun class or small group envelope challenge. Let the kids work together to arrange the books in order.
Child Line-up – Invite children to hold each of your books. You can put them in order or out of order and have the kids ask them to swap places. Tell them to hold up their sign when it’s time to sing it! (For young helpers, you can tell them their name and point to them!)
Flip & Sing – Start with all the books in the correct order. This would be a great way to use this activity for a 2nd week! Let a child come up and pick 2 to flip over. Sing those two out extra loud! Keep adding more to flip over until they’re all hidden.
Find the Books – Hide the book titles around the room and go on a hunt to find them, then add them on the board about where they might go in the song. Continue until they’re all found!
