Choose to Serve the Lord Hero Names
Sing through Choose to Serve the Lord once before introducing the activity. You can do this activity with just a specific verse or the entire song.
Say – wow so many heroes!! How many scripture hero names did you hear? (vs 1 = 4, vs 2 = 4, refrain = 5, total = 13).
Let’s see if we can put all the heroes in the right order. Pull out a bag with hero names or letters cut out and mixed up in the bag. Draw blanks up on the board for the letters or names in order. Stick with names for junior primary and you can try the letter challenge with Senior primary!

Let a child come up and pick out a name or 3-5 letters and try to put them in the correct order. Let’s test that out and see if it looks right. Sing the song together again and check the order.
Continue singing through the song and adding a name or additional letters after each time through the song.

Extension Activities:
- Add an action for each hero after you’ve added or completed their name! You can have the children help you come up with actions that match their line of the song. Such as stand or stomp for Esther (stand for right), flap angel wings for Elisha, pull out your sword for David, etc.
- Stand and then quickly sit back down each time you sing a hero name. Or stand and then sit alternating each time you sing a new hero name!
- Sing out the hero names extra loud. Now, try whisper singing the hero names.
- Split up the Primary into 2 groups. Alternate singing lines of the song with their hero! Now, switch and sing the opposite lines.
