Christmas Pick a Stocking Singing Time

You’ll love this cute and fun Christmas Pick a Stocking Singing Time activity where you hide a themed way to sing card behind a stocking. Let the children “open” the stocking to decide on a themed way to sing or hide songs of your choice.

Christmas Pick a Stocking Singing Time

Put the stockings up on the board with magnets including however many stockings for the number of times you’d like to sing through the song. Depending on the song length, we can usually get through the song between 8-12 times during Singing Time.

Underneath each stocking, tape a way to sing card that coordinates with the stocking.

Invite a child to come up front and pick any of the stockings. Remove the stocking and reveal the themed way to sing card hidden beneath it! Sing through your song of choice with the way to sing action!

If including more than one song, divide up half of the stockings on each side of the board with the song title written above so the children can pick both the song of their choice from the two as well as a stocking and way to sing!

Example Christmas Pick a Stocking Ways to Sing

Candy Cane: Tongue Out – Stick out your tongue while you sing

Ornament: Use Egg Shakers – Shake with the rhythm of the song

Snowman: Snowman Freeze – Hold up a snowman sign, then everyone freezes in their current pose whenever they see the snowman!

Dotted Line: Sway to the Melody – Sway right and left following the flow of the melody.

Extension Activities:

• Print out two of each of the stockings and play a game of match instead. When they find a matching pair of stockings, sing through your song of choice! The stockings can list a way to sing or a song title, or they can be blank and you simply look for matches to then sing through your song so these cute stockings can be reused year after year.
• Instead of stuffing your stockings with one of the ways to sing cards, you can instead put a song title inside! Use the editable fields to write in your song titles of choice or write the song titles once printed.

• You can also simply choose to print the stocking cards with the ways to sing or song titles already written on them. This will remove a little of the mystery, but will simplify the game and what you need to print.
• If you have a small Primary group, write their names on the top of the stockings! Hang the stockings up on the whiteboard, off the back of the Piano, or on the back of the children’s chairs. Let the children each take a turn to pick a favorite song to sing or a way to sing card from all of the options. You can also ask them to answer a simple holiday question to add a little get to know you fun, such as:
  • What is your favorite holiday tradition?
  • What is your favorite Christmas treat?
  • What is something you can gift as a gift to Jesus this year? (Make a goal!)
