What’s the best part of Thanksgiving? Of course — the pie!! Okay, and visiting with family and friends, too. But I must admit the pies are my favorite dish in the Thanksgiving feast. I’ve come up with a fun Thanksgiving Singing Time Idea all about pies the kids are going to love! Let’s jump right in to this fun Thanksgiving Pick a Pie game!
Thanksgiving Pick a Pie Game
Write a song title on the back of each pie. Display your lovely pies up on the board with a magnet.
Invite a child or class to pick a pie. They can pick their favorite flavor, pick by color, or pick the one they would want to try. Can they name the flavor? (Some might be tricky!)
Sing through the song on the back of the pie.
You can also use any of these alternative ideas:
Cup & Ball Game with Pies: Play the classic cups and ball game where one ball is hidden inside one of the 3 cups and the kids have to try to follow and guess which one. But this time, use 3 pies! Show a slice of pie with a tape ball ready so it can stick to the back of one of the 3 pies.
Pies & Whip Cream: Laminate your pies. Then, write a song title or way to sing on your laminated pie with a dry erase marker. You can write the song on immediately after they’ve picked a pie, if you prefer. You can also write the song name on the back or write a number on the pie before laminating.
Place your pie into a pie pan and then cover the song name or number in whip cream! Let a helper come up and eat off the whip cream and reveal the song title! For a challenge, see if they can do it with no hands!
Slice of Pie: Hide a slice of pie beneath your pie. When a child picks a pie, use a pie server and reveal your slice of pie! Write your song title on the slice to reveal what song you will sing.
Hidden Pie Slices: Hide all of the pie slices around the room or under the kids chairs. Call on a child to name their favorite pie, then check under their chair to see if they have a slice hidden. If they do, they get to come up and match their slice to the pie. Then sing through the song that matches that pie!
Turkey Pot Pie Variation: Use the turkey pot pie, which may not be guessed as a leftover Thanksgiving pie instead of a sweet pie served on Thanksgiving day, as a fun surprise! Let whoever picks that pie get to sing their choice of song instead of the preselected songs.
Thanksgiving Pie Tic Tac Toe: Have one team be the fruit pies (Apple, Cherry, Pumpkin, Key Lime, Lemon Meringue) and the other group be the cream + other pies (Banana Cream, Coconut Cream, Chocolate, Pecan, Turkey). Or one group can be full pies and the other group pie slices. Write your songs in a tic tac toe grid, then as each team covers a space you will sing that song.
Ways to Sing: Sing just 1-3 songs and instead pick a way to sing! I have a massive list of ways to sing here to pick your favorites from.
