Family History-I Am Doing It Family Tree Puzzle
Print the family tree puzzle on cardstock. Cut out the picture into puzzle pieces. Hide the puzzle pieces all around the room.
Sing through the song Family History-I Am Doing It (flip chart here) once, before you begin this activity. It’s a great way to transition into Singing Time or from a different activity.

Ask the children a question such as: Who knows what a family tree is? Is it a real tree? Why do we call it a family tree? What is Family History?
My family tree is scattered all over this room I need your help! Let’s find our family tree and put it back together again!

Invite a helper to be your seeker. As you sing through the song, they can hunt around the room looking for one piece of the family tree puzzle. When they find a piece, they will bring it up front and put it on the board. If there are already some pieces, they’ll try to put it in the correct spot.
Continue to call helpers, hunt for family tree pieces, and complete the puzzle.
Share a testimony of the importance of family history work and eternal families!

Extension Activities:
- Hand out blank family tree chart pages. Invite your Primary children to fill it the chart with you as you go. Sing through the song and then pass out the pages. Have everyone write their own name at the bottom of the tree in lowest banner. Continue to sing through the song as you add in family names in each of the different labels. If they can’t remember a family members name they can just write “Grandma,” for example.

- Print out one puzzle per class or every 3-5 children. Invite the children to work to piece the puzzle together as a small group each time you sing through the song. Have the groups race to finish the puzzle, then return to their seats and start singing. It’ll be fun for them to race each other to see how quickly into the song they can finish their puzzle!
- Use the blank tree and name banners instead. Can you arrange the family tree?

- Ask the children one thing they love about one of the family members – mom, dad, grandma, grandpa. Then, as a group, sing in that style!
