Halloween Costumes Dress-up Ways to Sing
Pick out your songs of choice to sing through with this activity. It can be a mix of songs to practice for your Primary program, a variety of songs you’ve learned throughout the years, or a mix with some fun new songs you want to introduce. You can pick just a couple of songs or a mix of songs.
Invite a child to come up to the front of the room and pick a costume dress-up card. You can let them select from all the options or from cards mixed up and held upside down.
See if they can name the costume and then share what the fun activity you’ll use to sing with that coordinates with their character while you sing through your song selection.
Work your way through singing with different ways to sing styles through your song list.
Halloween Ways to Sing:
- Superhero: Dab on keyword
- Cowboy: Rope your cattle (last word of each line)
- Princess: Wave ribbon wand
- Dinosaur: Stomp on keyword
- Soldier: March in place
- Cheerleader: Clap on each note
- Witch: Lead with a wand
- Vampire: Don’t move your teeth
- Pirate: Cover one eye (like a pirate eye patch)
- Puppy: Wag your tail (on references to self)
- Ghost: Sway and sing
- Fairy: Sprinkle fairy dust
Extension Activities:
Match: Print out 2 of each Halloween dress-up friends. Play a game of match and when a pair is found, sing through your song with the way to sing that coordinates.
Costumes: Bring in kids costumes and invite a child to come up and pick a card and find the matching costume. Let them dress up (over their current clothes) while you sing and they can wear the costume the rest of the singing time.
I Spy: Hide the different costume dress-up friends around the Primary room. Let a volunteer go on a hunt for one of the hidden pictures. When they find one, they can bring it up to the front of the room and help you lead the music the rest of the song. Mark the I Spy chart as a whole group or let the kids mark their own paper by class or individually.
You can also use this cute printable on Halloween or at a Ward Trunk or Treat party as a fun activity for young kids.
