Sing through Holding Hands Around the World with this flip chart here once, before introducing this activity. This helps to refresh the words and melody and is great at a transition.
Post all the picture/lyrics cards up on the board with the words faced up. Sing through the song with the lyrics showing.
Now, pick 1-2 cards to flip over to show pictures of children instead. Can you remember the words? Sing through the song again.
Continue to make your way through the song as you remove the lyrics as you go. This adds in tons of repetition with an engaging way to see how well they are progressing through the song.
End by sharing how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a worldwide church with children just like them, all over the world, that are trying just like they are to make good choices and help share the gospel with their friends.
Extension Activities:
- Play a game of match instead! Print two copies of each picture of the children. Put them up on the board in a mixed-up order face down. Divide the room into two groups. Take turns getting to flip any two cards and trying to find a match. When you make a match, that side of the room scores a point and then sing through the song together.
- Divide your Primary room into two equal groups. Switch singing back and forth between each side of the room as you move through each line of the song (and coordinating picture). Or one group sings the words still showing and one group sings the parts that are now flipped over to pictures, which will give a more random division that changes as you work through the activity. You can even divide teachers vs kids!
- Make this activity specific to your Primary by asking parents for pictures of your Primary kiddos and printing out pictures of your Primary to cover the lyrics instead!
- For a print-friendly option, look for pictures of children from your ward library or magazines to use instead!
