Holy Places Interactive Picture

For a neat way to appeal to your visual learners in singing time this month, try this interactive picture idea! I’ve created a printable picture that includes different elements from this hymn. The basic idea behind this activity is add one element to the picture as you sing each line.

In preparing for this activity, I first printed and cut each element of the picture. I laminated mine to make each element more sturdy. This step is optional, but worth it! This way, you can use it again or easily adapt this picture for other songs about the temple, such as I Love to See the Temple (see all our ideas for this song!)

There are a few different ways to set up this interactive picture idea. The simplest way is to put a piece of tape on the back of each element and tape them to the board or a piece of paper as you sing.

For another neat option, use Velcro sticky dots for each element of your picture. This requires a bit more prep, but will make for a polished look! Here’s a sneak peek of what your completed interactive picture will look like:

Activity Instructions:

Sing through the first verse of Holy Places at the beginning of singing time. I definitely recommend grabbing a copy of our Holy Places flip chart for this song since it is likely to be brand-new to your primary children.

What is this song about? What does the word, “Holy” mean? Let’s sing it again and listen for clues. Place the picture of the temple in the center of the board or paper. Sing the line, “The temple is a holy place.”

Is there anything on the board that reminds us of heaven? That’s right – a cloud! How about “earth?” Choose a volunteer to come up and place the cloud in the sky and place the grass beneath the temple.

How can we show reverence? Fold your arms as you sing the line, “A reverence place, a hallowed space.” Next, place the picture of Jesus on the left hand side of the picture as you sing, “Where we do the Savior’s work.” The temple helps us think about Jesus.

As you sing, “I’ll stand in holy places,” place the young girl next to the temple. Then, add the heart for the phrase, “with a heart that’s firm and true.”

Point to the picture of Christ as you sing, “Until Christ returns and makes all the world.”

What will the earth become? Choose three volunteers to come up and place the words, “Holy,” “Clean,” and “New” on the bottom of the picture. Sing through the song once more, pointing to each element of the picture as you sing.
