I Will Be Valiant Tag Team Singing
How to Play:
Invite a guest to come into your primary to sing I Will Be Valiant for you! The kids will love the change of pace and having someone they know in the ward come in to sing to them, for a change! I’ve created a fun pattern to use for them to sing with you.
I highly recommend asking your ward missionaries. They are a wonderful resource, and this song is just perfect for including them. Remind them that it’s totally okay if they aren’t amazing singers, you’re just looking for their positive energy and enthusiasm!
Alternates could be your YM/YW leadership to help engage those kiddos moving up this year, your Bishopric, or even recruit the Primary Presidency. They have a backseat role with the new layout they probably would love to be involved!
Have the guest performers come up front prepared with one of these fun ways to tag team sing through the song. You can review the I Will Be Valiant lyrics over here to help you prepare.
Alternate singing after every other line. “The Lord needs valiant servants to do his work in the latter days / who follow the teachings of Jesus and serve his people in a loving way.”
Alternate singing each line. “The Lord needs valiant servants / to do his work in the latter days”
Sing every other word “The / Lord / needs / valiant / servants”
You can let them pick their favorite or ask them to prepare a specific style.
Now, you can include the Primary! Have your guest performers combine to the first singing part and let the Primary kids pick up the alternate line. Instead of going back and forth singing between the guests, it will now go: guests / primary kids / guests / primary kids
Extension Activities:
- You can start with one of the patterns in a performance, then use the repeat tactic to have the Primary be the shadow. Then move on to the 2nd and then the 3rd patterns with the echo!
- For a challenge round, have them switch every measure! This is a fun tricky challenge as it doesn’t follow the melody of the words, such as: “The Lord needs valiant / servants to do his / work in the latter / days who / follow the teachings of / Jesus and..”
- Wild Style! Do a pointing war and let the guests and the kids pick when to switch who sings. Just put one person in charge from each “team” and let them point on over to the other side when it’s time to switch (minimum of singing 2 words).
- Step forward one step after each time they’ve finished singing a line – just for fun!
