Do you want to include Pioneer Day, but don’t want to go over the top with props and time commitment? You’ll absolutely love this fun Pioneer Day Would You Rather game! I’ve paired it with Little Pioneer Children but it works with your choice of song, too.
Ask the children which of each of these 2 Pioneer choices they would rather do and then sing through your song for review. You can also use this activity with a program song instead of a pioneer song, if you need to focus on your song progress.

Little Pioneer Children Would You Rather
Sing through your choice of Pioneer Song (master Primary song list!) before getting started with this activity. I especially like to pair this activity with Little Pioneer Children because it talks about some of the things the children did along the way and the choices they would make to obey, but you can pick any Pioneer song!
Tell the children that today you’re going to put yourself in the shoes of the Pioneer children. Try to imagine you’re a Pioneer child walking along the trail.

We’re going to play a fun game of “Would you Rather?” Pick which one of these things that the pioneer children experience you would rather do.
Invite the children to act out their selection as you sing through the verse.

Continue with another would you rather question between each time singing through the song.
Ask the children, what is one way today that they can be like those Pioneer children to be helpful and happy around your home?

Little Pioneer Children Would You Rather Questions – Verse 1:
- Gather berries or firewood?
- Help a friend or lead the group?
- Walk in the hot summer or freezing winter?
- Help churn butter or gather water?

Extension Activities:
- Instead of or in addition to actions you can break up the song into parts and have each group sing one part of the song. The first choice of each would you rather question can sing the first 2 lines or the 1st verse. The 2nd choice will sing the last 2 line or the 2nd verse. With a smaller Primary, you can also invite the children to move to the left or right side of the room for each question to help you lead.
- You can ask several would you rather questions between each time singing through your song of choice to help you get through more of these fun scenarios to ponder.
- Add a unifying action for each choice that stays the same all through the selections. If you pick the first answer then you will clap on each word. If you pick the second answer then pat your lap following the beat.
- Setup the Would You Rather questions around the room, in the hallway, or outside along the path and go on a journey. Stop at each one and decide which one you would rather do. Then sing a verse as you move to the next question along your journey.
