Love is Spoken Here Heart Attack

I love to teach Love is Spoken Here (archives) for Valentine’s Day and then use the song again as a Mother’s Day or Father’s Day song selection (BIG song list)! It’s just such a pretty song and I have a fun and meaningful way to help connect the meaning of the song lyrics with an activity.

In this Love is Spoken Here Heart Attack activity, the Primary children will help fill up the room with hearts and ways they can show love in their own homes! Plus, challenge them to take one of the other kids ideas home with them to try that week.

Love is Spoken Here Heart Attack

Sing through Love is Spoken Here (flip chart here) once, before introducing this activity. I always love to start with singing through the song to help settle the kids and refocus before adding in an activity.

Ask the children to raise their hands if they can think of a way that they show love to their family. Take a few answers. I love all those ideas! You guys are so good at showing love! This song is all about helping our homes be filled with love. Today, we are going to “heart attack” the Primary room. Do you want to help?

Pass out individual hearts, half sheet pages of hearts in one of the included styles, or a full page sheet of hearts. The children can fill in just a single heart or they can color or write ways to show love in their sheet of hearts!

While the children color or write in ideas for ways to show love, sing through Love is Spoken Here 1-3 times, depending on how much time your children need.

Invite one class at a time or a few children at a time to come up front and share their picture or examples of ways to show love. Then, they can help lead the song while everyone sings together. Give each class a chance to share and lead.

Extension Activities:

  • Fill in the hearts with things you love about the Primary children (generally). You can also have the Primary Presidency help. Stick these filled in hearts on the bottom of the chairs. After singing through the song the first time, tell them you have hidden a heart somewhere near the children. Can they find it? Have everyone find their heart. You can then call up participating singers to put their heart somewhere around the Primary room as you sing, 1-2 children at a time.
  • Invite the children to take home a sheet of hearts to their own home and write a note to each member of their family. Hide the heart somewhere where each family member might find it such as under their pillow, in the fridge, or in a shoe.
  • Play this game like a game of “Singing Measles” and let the children stick their heart cutouts all over you or their teachers instead of the board!
  • Fill in the hearts with a way that you feel love from the Savior. After the board is all filled up, challenge the children to love others just like the Savior does and pick one of the hearts from another friend in the Primary room to take home. Their challenge is to try to love someone in their family in that same way this week. The heart will be their reminder! You might share 2-3 example words before starting.
