This My Own Sacred Grove In the Grove singing time activity today is a great way to engage the kids senses and help them better picture what it would have been like for Joseph in the Sacred Grove. It’s a great way to help them consider how to setup their own sacred spaces.
Will you be teaching My Own Sacred Grove (archives) this year? I think it’s such a wonderful song to teach as part of the Doctrine & Covenants Come Follow Me Primary songs this year! It’s a great song to help make the restoration more personal and relatable to the children.

My Own Sacred Grove In the Grove
Sing through My Own Sacred Grove once with this My Own Sacred Grove with this flip chart, before introducing this activity. This is a great way to transition from another activity or help remind the children of the words before adding another focus.
Ask the children to close their eyes and picture what the sacred grove would have looked like. What can they see around them? Do they hear anything? What about smells?

Take a few of their responses and then pick one of the things they mentioned and share one of the pictures included that might go with the things they would see. That could be trees, light, birds, etc. I’ve included a variety of different symbols from the grove to help.
Use one of the matching ways to sing to help represent the symbols of the grove.
Finally, ask the children to close their eyes again. This time, ask them to think about what might they feel in a place like the Sacred Grove?

Close by sharing your testimony that they can feel the comfort of the Holy Ghost, receive answers to their prayers, and find guidance and direction from Heavenly Father. Encourage them to find a sacred quiet space of their own that matches some of the descriptions you’ve shared today that can be a place of quiet and calm to talk to Heavenly Father.

Symbols from the Grove:
- Light – Use flashlights or finger lights and draw shapes using your lights.
- Trees – Stand tall with your feet planted on the ground.
- Birds – Sing with a chirpy, high-pitched, sing-song voice like a bird.
- Still – Wiggle on the verse and then be as STILL as you can on the chorus.

Extension Activities:
- You can bring in objects to replace the pictures – such as a lamp, an audio clip of birds singing, a fake tree or some leaves, and other objects to help represent the grove.
- Put the symbols up on the board. Let a child come up to pick one of the symbols. Ask them how that symbols relates to the Sacred Grove or their own sacred space.
