The Priesthood is Restored Clapping Pattern

Your primary children will love clapping and tapping along with this simple rhythm pattern! I’ve created an easy-to-learn clapping pattern with just 3 different actions that will make for a fun and engaging singing time activity this month!

Before introducing this clapping pattern, sing through The Priesthood is Restored (flip chart) once. You could even encourage the children to pay attention to the rhythm. Where are the long notes? Short notes?

Then, demonstrate the first line of the pattern by patting your lap twice for the syllables “priest-hood” and clapping twice for “is re-.”

Now, as you sing the long note, pat your knees fast like a drumroll. You’ll repeat these actions for the line, “the truth made known to man” as well.

Can you try it with me? Have the children pat and clap along with you as you sing just these two lines. Pretty easy, right?

Post the clapping pattern visuals on the board as you demonstrate the actions for the rest of the song. For the next line, we’ll be alternating between high and low claps as you sing the line “God has spoken” (high) “to the earth.” (low)

Then, pat your knees twice as you sing “pow’r is” and clap on the word, “here.” Finish the song with a drumroll on the final note!

After you try the pattern for the second half of the song, see if you can remember the clapping pattern for the entire song! Continue reviewing as you clap along with this song.

Clapping Pattern:

I’ve included the full clapping pattern for this song below. This rhythm pattern includes just a few actions, with a few that repeat! Be sure to grab the printable version later in this post for helpful visuals to use as you teach this pattern in primary.

LAP / LAP – CLAP / CLAP – For this sequence, pat your knees twice, followed by two hand claps. We’ll use these actions for each syllable of the phrase, “Priest – hood is re” and again for “truth made known to”

Drumroll – Long Notes Use this action for long notes at the end of the first two lines, “stored” and “man.” We’ll also be using the drumroll for the last word of the song, “again.”

High Clap 3X– Raise your hands up high as you clap once on each word of the phrase,“God has spoken”

Low Clap 3X – Finish the sentence above with 3 low claps on the words, “To the earth.”

LAP / LAP / CLAP – “pow’r is here”

Extension Activities:

  • Split the class into two groups – one group for pats and one for claps. Have each group sing the lyrics and do their action for a fun alternating singing style. Have all the children do the drumrolls!
  • To simplify this pattern, choose either claps or pats to pair with drumrolls and alternate between short and long notes in the song.
  • Alternate between claps and pats on each word! You can also follow along with the rhythm by alternating LAP / LAP – CLAP / CLAP throughout the entire song.
