For a great activity to add lots of singing time repetition, you’ll love this The Priesthood is Restored Alternate Singing idea. Divide the Primary room into two equal groups and split up which parts of the song to sing for a fun activity that gets the kids thinking and singing internally as they alternate singing from side to side of the room.
This is just one fun way to teach The Priesthood is Restored (archives) to your Primary children. I love this activity for reviewing the song after you’ve spent a few years teaching the lyrics. This is a great song to include as part of your Primary Songs for Doctrine & Covenants Come Follow Me year.

The Priesthood is Restored Alternate Singing
Sing through The Priesthood is Restored (flip chart here) all together as a group once, before introducing this fun alternate singing activity.
Divide the Primary room into two approximately equal groups. Using the right and left half of the room is often easiest, but you can do whatever fits your group best.

Take turns singing by parts alternating with one of patterns outlined. The easiest option is to simply sing every other line of the song. From there, you can up the challenge. Try singing every other word or half of each line, for example.
To add extra repetition, switch which group sings first for another time through the song.
Close by asking the children what their favorite line or few words from the song was their favorite to sing? Share your favorite part of the song and how the Priesthood being here on the earth has made a difference in your life.

Extension Activities:
- Switch up the groups to different ways to split them up each time. You could do right and left, front row and back row, older and younger, teachers vs kids, etc.
- Determine your groups randomly with a fun Stand & Sit split, ask the children to stand if they like dogs more than cats or ice cream more than cake, etc. The stand group will sing one part and the sitting group the other part. Pair those groups with your choice of alternate singing options.
- To help engage the reluctant singers, make this a competition! Have the kids sing vs you or all the leaders and see who sings it “best.” With best being both volume but the correct lyrics, on melody, and not shout singing.
- Let the children pick which of the alternate singing splits they want to try next so they have a buy-in to participate. Let the children also help pick how to divide the room for this round.
