If you are teaching the new Old Testament song, The Creation (archives) in your primary room, you are in for such a treat! This song teaches about God’s creation story in such a joyful, upbeat way!
In keeping with the upbeat nature of this song, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some movement! I hope you will find this The Creation Rhythm Partners activity just as fun as I do!
The Creation Rhythm Partners
If you are planning on including this song in your Come Follow Me Old Testament plans (see all our teaching ideas for the year!), you’ll likely need to spend a few weeks teaching it. Since it’s fairly new, it may take a bit before the kids feel confident with the song. That’s why I want to share lots of engaging ideas, like this one!
This partner movement idea is a great way to encourage your primary children to interact and work with each other! With a fun and simple rhythm, your primary kids will gravitate to this people interactions activity (more learning style ideas) quickly!
I’ve created a partner rhythm pattern that focuses specifically on the chorus of this song. It pairs beautifully with the playful, upbeat nature of this song. Let’s jump right in!
Sing through The Creation once at the beginning of singing time. If you need to keep a copy of the words handy, feel free to grab our The Creation flip chart with visuals and lyrics.
Alright, everyone stand up and turn to the person next to you! Ask a teacher ahead of time to help you demonstrate the pattern. Start by clapping twice as you sing, “Night and the – “ and clap both hands across to your partner for the word, “day.” Repeat these two actions for the next line, “Sun and the rain.”
Next, pat your knees five times as you sing, “Mountains and mor-ning dew.”
You’ll repeat this entire sequence for the following line – “Rivers that / flow, Flowers that / grow / fire-flies fish-es too.”
Next, alternate stomping three times each foot for the line, “Fruit on the trees, all the color you see.” Now, FREEZE! Spin as you sing, “Honeybees.”
Alternate between a double clap and a single-handed clap across to your partner for the line, “Last, but not / least” “ Adam and / “Eve.” Show off your best pose for the last line of the song!
It may take a few run-throughs to feel comfortable with the pattern. That’s okay! This is a great way to get in lots of song practice while getting some wiggles out.

Here’s an outline of the rhythm partner pattern for the chorus. Don’t forget to grab a copy of the printable version for some helpful visuals and watch the video to answer any questions you may have!
- Clap 2X – “Night and the – ,” “sun and the-“ / “Rivers that –, “ “Flowers that”
- Clap Across – “Day, “ Rain,” / “Flow,” “Grow”
- Pat Knees 5X – “Mountains and the mor-ning dew,” “Fire-flies fish-es too”
- Left Stomp 3X – “Fruit on trees”
- Right Stomp 3x – “Color you see”
- Freeze – “Hawks, and the hippos and the”
- Spin = “Honeybees”
- Clap 2X = “Last / not” “Adam and”
- One-Hand Clap Across – “Least,” “Eve”
- Pose – “and then the world was complete”
Extension Activities:
- Switch partners! During the song, randomly call out “Switch!” and have everyone find a new partner.
- Keep things simple and just try the pattern without partners first. Replace each of the partner claps with hand claps. Once you are feeling more comfortable with the pattern, try it with a partner!
- Add some variety to the repeating sections by alternating left/right hand pats or clapping high vs. low
