Anytime, Anywhere Prayer Cards

As primary music leaders, our role is to help teach gospel principles through music. For a neat way to help your primary children deepen their understanding of prayer as you teach this sweet hymn, use this spiritual connection idea with discussion questions about prayer.

I’ve created a set of 8 cards with simple questions about prayer. As you introduce or review the song, use the question cards to “quiz” the children on the lyrics and teach about prayer!

Most of these prayer questions can be answered using clues from both verses of this song. However, a few questions will get your primary kids thinking about their own experiences with prayer.

There are likely to be many “correct” answers to these questions, as prayer is so personal. As you sing together, use these question cards to facilitate a brief discussion about prayer with your primary children.

At the beginning of primary, start by singing through both verses of Anytime, Anywhere (lyrics here). This song is pretty short and has lots of repetition, so I definitely recommend teaching both verses if you can!

Then, start by asking a simple question, such as “WHO can we pray to?” That’s right – Heavenly Father! WHERE can we pray? WHEN? This song teaches that we can pray “anytime” and “anywhere.” Where are some places that you pray?

Invite a few children to share their answers, then sing through the song again before asking another question from the list.

As you ask questions, encourage the children to share any personal experiences with prayer that they feel comfortable sharing. Before closing, share your own testimony of how prayer blesses your life.

Hopefully, this mini-lesson about prayer will help your primary children feel the spirit and think about the message of this new hymn both in primary and throughout their week.

Prayer Question Cards:

I’ve included a list of question cards to pair with this song. Remember that many of these questions will have a variety of “right” answers.

Also, don’t worry if you can’t get to all the questions! The goal is to help your primary children learn more about prayer and develop a personal connection with this hymn, so less can definitely be more!

• WHO can we pray to? (Heavenly Father)
• WHAT can we pray for? (“Heav’nly guidance,” safety, strength, peace, health, friends, family)
• WHEN can we pray? (“Anytime”)
• WHERE can we pray? (“Anywhere”)

Extension Activities:

• Divide the questions evenly between classes. On the back of each question card, write one line from the song. Have each group discuss their answers for a few minutes. Then, sing through the song, with each class singing only their assigned lines.
• Invite a special guest to share a powerful experience involving prayer. Or, invite the missionaries to come teach a mini-lesson about prayer!
• Write a fun action or silly way to sing on the back of each question cards. Arrange them on the board and choose one question/action each time you sing. Here’s our big list of fun ways to sing a primary song!
• Watch a spiritual video or share conference quotes about prayer!  Primary General President Sister Susan H. Porter’s talk, “Pray He is There” is a great one to share with your primary kiddos.
