As I Search the Holy Scriptures Picture Story
How to Assemble Your Picture Book:
I’ve created a simple, cute printable booklet with colorful images to represent each line of the song. For each line of the song, you’ll have 2 pictures, one on each side of the page.
Prepare for this visual intrigue activity by printing out all 6 pages of the printable picture story. Assemble your picture book by printing double sided (flip on short side), checking to make sure all your pages are in the right order. When you print your pages, they will look a bit jumbled, as shown below:

Start with laying the title page and back cover flat, facing away from you. Then, you’ll want to look for the page with the “scriptures” icon. Fold this page in half so that the book icon is next to the magnifying glass.
Continue this pattern by making sure that each line contains the correct pictures. The last two pages of the book contain a quote from President Nelson and the scripture reference for this song Then, staple your picture book! When you finish, you’ll have an adorable book that looks like this:

At the beginning of singing time, introduce this activity by telling the children that you have a story to share with them. If you have a larger primary, you could make a small semicircle to make it easier for everyone to see the book pages.
This story is called, “As I Search the Holy Scriptures.” Bring out your picture book and begin singing through the song line by line.
As you sing each line, flip the page like you are reading a book. After singing each line of the song, read the quote from President Nelson about scripture study, as well as the scripture reference for this song. Once you finish the book, ask the children: What did you think about our story? What was this story about?

Invite the children to share any impressions they had as you sang and shared each picture.
Then, begin teaching the first verse of As I Search the Holy Scriptures. You may want to grab our As I Search the Holy Scriptures flip chart so that you have all the lyrics available.
Alternatively, if you are using this activity to review, sing through the song once or twice together before you close with your testimony.

Extension Activities:
- For a fun review, have the kids help you put the book together! Cut out all the pages and tape them to the board. Work together to put the pictures in order. Then, staple the pages together like a book and sing through it together!
- Match the picture to the correct song lyric! Cut out the word labels and pictures before singing time. Tape all the pictures to one side of the board and lyrics on the other. See if the kids can correctly pair each picture to its song lyric!
- Split the class into 4 groups. Give each group one page of the book (2 pictures). Have them rearrange themselves so that the song is in the right order! Then, have them sing their line!
