As I Search the Holy Scriptures Word Search
Use this As I Search the Holy Scripture flip chart to help as you sing through the song once, before introducing the word search.
Invite a child to come up front and look for words from the first line of the song as you all sing through the line a few times. Cross out any letters that don’t belong and highlight or color in complete words.
Make sure all the words from the first line are highlighted and point out that just like we’re searching for words for this song lyrics, we can search the scriptures for messages from Heavenly Father to help us answer our prayers.
Invite another helper to come up to work on the next line of the song. Everyone sings through the first and second line of the song a few times while they work through the next few lines of the puzzle.
Continue to make your way through the song one line at a time by adding a line of the song at a time until you’ve had a chance to sing through the song a bunch of times.
This is a great way to learn the song the first time or use it for review with lots of repetition.
Extension Activities:
- For a harder challenge – cut the word search puzzle into strips and put them into an envelope. Have the children search for words AND unscramble the strips into the correct order.
- You can use the color-coded puzzle key to help Junior Primary or younger children search for words. You might cut out the words to find and let them hold one as they drag it line by line looking for the word hidden in the puzzle.
- Color with 3-5 different colors your keywords that you spot in the song. SKIP singing the keywords for a specific color. This will help them focus and silently sing those words to skip and is great for helping build long term memory.
- Cut up the keyword words. Have a helper draw one randomly from a bowl. Then, let them search for that specific word. Have everyone sing that keyword extra loud or add an action such as clapping on all the keywords you’ve collected so far.
