Build an Ark Eraser Pass
Can you spot the wrong words? I have used variations of this type of activity several times in primary, and I just love how fun and effective it is! The basic idea behind this eraser pass activity is to cross out incorrect song lyrics until only the correct keywords are showing!
I’ve created an eraser pass puzzle with keywords from the first verse of this Old Testament song. The big catch? Along with each keyword from the song are two other words that don’t belong! Find the correct word in each set for a fun way to represent the lyrics and put your song knowledge to the test!
You can absolutely write out all the keywords on the board, but I recommend grabbing a copy of our printable version later in this post for a quick print-and-go activity!

Before introducing this activity, sing though the first verse of Build an Ark using this handy Build an Ark flip chart. This is a great way to keep the song fresh in your mind as you look for the correct song lyrics.
Put the first page of keywords on the board. Hmm, Noah, Moses, Samuel… Who is this song about? That’s right – Noah! Choose a volunteer to come up and cross off the words, “Moses” and “Samuel.”
This puzzle has lots of wrong words! Can you help me find all the words that don’t belong in the song?

Sing through the song again, and give the marker to another child. Have them come up and mark off one word that doesn’t belong. Then, pass it off to someone new.
Slowly work through all three pages of keyword groups until only the correct lyrics are remaining. Sing through the song once more, pointing to the keywords as you go. If you are looking for more ways to encourage participation, choose a leader to come up and point to the words for you.
It’s so simple! If you have lots of young primary children who don’t read, skip the reading and just call out the keywords. Or, sing the phrase and see if they can fill in the blank with the correct song lyric.
Be sure to glance at our list of extension ideas below for even MORE ways to adapt this activity in your primary room!

Extension Activities:
- Once you have found all the correct keywords, have one side of the room sing only the words on the board while the other side sings the rest of the lyrics. Then, swap!
- If you have lots of non-readers or want to simplify the activity, work through each line together. For example, sing “Noah was a… What comes next?”
- Choose a simple action each time you sing one of the keywords on the board. Here are some easy ideas: Clap hands, snap fingers, jumping jacks, spin around, toe taps, high five
- Sing keywords extra LOUD for a fun way to explore dynamics. Then, whisper singing the keywords and singing the rest of the lyrics at a medium volume.
- Give one page of the eraser pass puzzle to each class. Have each group race to find all the correct song lyrics first! Then, have them sing their section of the song!
- Take turns singing keywords. Point to one side of the room to start, then point to the other side to fill in the keyword. Continue the phrase, then go back to the other side for the next keyword.
