Build an Ark Pass the Ark
Sing through Build an Ark (flip chart here) once, before introducing this activity. This is a great way to kickstart your singing time and signal to the children that it’s time for singing and focus. I also love to start with just the song to help the children remember the lyrics before adding a layer of challenge.
Now, show the children this cute pass the ark card. I recommend printing and laminating your ark so it can endure lots of passing around the room.

Sing through Build an Ark as you pass the ark card around the room. Randomly pause the music and intervals. When the music stops, ask whoever is holding the ark to say what word would come next!
Continue around the room several times so lots of different children get a chance to name a missing word for lots of singing repetition.

Extension Activities:
- Instead of naming which word comes next, you can instead mix up the game by inviting the child that ends up holding the ark card when the music pauses to come up front to lead or to now whisper sing instead of regular singing.
- Write and of the words that were named from when the music paused up on the board. Have all the children quickly stand and sit again as you sing that word together. You’ll keep increasing the challenge with new words added each time the music pauses.
- Instead of passing the ark like a hot potato game, instead try one of these alternate simple hide and seek games:
- Hide and Seek: Hide the ark (or several arks if you prefer) around the room as one child steps out of the Primary room. Then, invite them to hunt for the ark as you sing. How many can they find? Can they find the ark before you finish singing? Invite them to help lead when they are doing searching.
- Hot & Cold: Sing louder the closer the seeker gets to the hidden ark. If they start to move away, sing quieter. The kids love this game to sing louder and louder as the seeker gets close to finding the ark!
- Pass on Each Word: Each time you sing a word, you pass the ark. To help the flow of this activity, sing the song without the piano so you can sing each word as the ark is passed adding even more interaction! In a very large Primary, you might invite one row of kids to come up front to pass the ark instead, then switch to a new class.
- In a large primary, pass around 2 or 3 arks! When you pause the music, have those holding one of the arks switch seats! Or, you can have them sit down. Keep passing the arks around the room until you are down to just a couple of kids left.
