Love is Spoken Here Act It Out
Bring this song to life by acting out scenarios of regular life at home! For a neat way to help your primary children connect with this primary song, read through different scenarios and talk about positive responses for each.
If you have lots of social butterflies in your primary group, this activity is a perfect choice! This activity will provide lots of opportunities for your primary kiddos to talk and work together.
For this activity, I’ve created a bunch of different scenario cards about situations at home. In each situation, there are ways to respond with either contention or love. As you work through these scenarios, discuss ways to make loving choices in our relationships with our families.

How to Play:
Start by singing through Love is Spoken Here (lyrics here) once before beginning this activity. This is a great way to invite the spirit and help the kids remember the lyrics.
What is this song about? That’s right – it’s about our homes and families! Is it hard or easy to show love to our family members?
Sometimes it can be hard! Choose a helper to come up and pick a scenario. Have your helper read the scenario aloud to the group.
For example, if you and your sister are fighting about a toy, what might be a loving choice? Hmm, does anyone have any ideas?
What about playing with another toy for a little bit and taking turns? Maybe there is a way to play together! What do you think?
Let a few children share their ideas, then pick a new scenario. I always like to weave in as much singing as I can, so I recommend choosing 1-2 scenarios, then singing through at least a few lines of the song. Or, switch off between the first verse and the second verse.
As you work through different scenarios, talk about simple ways to make loving choices in our homes. It’s totally okay if you don’t make it through all 12 scenarios! The purpose of the activity is to deepen your understanding of the message of this song. If that means you only get to a few scenarios, that’s alright!

Act It Out Scenarios:
Here are just a few examples of some scenarios included in the printable for this activity. Encourage your primary children to really think about how they can make a loving choice in each of these scenarios! What other situations can you think of?
- Your brother pushes you while playing outside (Response: Forgive, play with something else)
- Your sister comes home from school and starts crying (Response: Give her a hug and ask what is wrong)
- Your mom asks you to do your least favorite chore (Response: Say, “Okay!” and serve with a good attitude)
- You are eating dinner with your family (Response: Give a compliment or share something positive about your day)

Extension Activities:
- Write a fun way to sing on the back of each scenario card! Ex. Sing like a pirate, loud/soft singing, whisper sing, sing like an opera singer…
- Pass out one scenario to each class. Have each group work together to talk about positive ways to respond in each situation. Then, have them share with the group!
- Act it out! Choose one scenario and a few helpers. First, act out an unkind way to respond to the situation. Then, turn it around and act out a positive, loving way to respond.
- Play a game of charades! Choose 1-2 children to act out a situation and have the rest of the group guess what is happening.
- Have the children think of examples in their own families! Have each child share an example with their class.
