Dare to Do Right Picture Match
The classic game of “Memory” is typically played by laying cards face down in rows and flipping over 2 cards at a time until all the matches are gone. The tricky part of the game is trying to keep track of the cards you have already flipped and trying to remember their location on the board!
This fun visual intrigue activity follows these same rules! Just set up pictures on the board and have the kids take turns flipping over the pictures until they find a match!
Whether you choose to make it a competition or keep it simple, your primary children will have a blast looking for matches while you practice singing this song!
How to Play:
In this printable included later in this post, you’ll find 10 printable cards with 5 picture matches of people doing right (going to church, serving others, going to the temple, being baptized, praying).
Before primary, print off all the cards and mix them up. Set up your memory board by taping or using magnets to hang up each picture facing the board. If you find that you can still see the pictures even when they are facing away from you, you may want to back each picture with a piece of cardstock to hide the pictures.
At the beginning of singing time, review the first verse of Dare to Do Right (flip chart here).
Then, tell the kids that you have a picture challenge for them! Has anyone played the game, “Memory” before? For this game, you’ll have to pay close attention to match all the pictures of people doing right.
Choose a volunteer to come up and turn over two cards. If the two pictures match, keep them turned over. If they don’t match, flip them back over.
Sing through the song again and choose another volunteer to come up! Continue having children come up and choose 2 cards at a time as they try to find matches.
Once you have found all the picture matches, discuss how each person or people in the pictures “dare to do right.” What can we learn from their examples?
Extension Activities:
- Keep score as you play! Take turns choosing a volunteer from each class. Have each class keep track of how many matches they find! Have a small treat for the class that collects the most matches!
- Make it even more challenging by hiding the pictures around the room. As you sing, have a child look for 2 cards around the room. If they don’t match, leave them in their spot. If they do match, bring the pictures up to the front and choose someone else to seek!
- Write a fun way to sing on each picture match. Each time you make a match, sing through the song using the silly action or way to sing!
- Split the class into two groups. Have a speed challenge and see which group can find all the matches first!
