I LOVE to make my grandmother’s famous sugar cookies – they really are the very best with a sweet hint of lemon to them. As I was thinking on Easter and favorite traditions, I thought how fun it would be to bring in adorable sugar cookies to help pick out different fun ways to sing through your song of choice for Easter!
Easter Sugar Cookies Ways to Sing
Pick out a favorite Easter song or two to sing through for your Singing Time. You can also just stick with the songs you are working on for the month if you do not plan to learn an Easter song this year.
Bring out the ways to sing cards and scramble them up. Invite a child to come up front and draw a card. Read out loud what way you will use to sing through the song. Then, sing the song together.
Continue to pick out a new way to sing card and sing through your song of choice with lots of repetition or switch songs, as preferred.
Easter Ways to Sing Cards
Bunny Hop on Keyword – Make small bunny like hops on a pre-selected keyword.
Sing Softly – Sing soft and pretty with a quiet hushed tone.
Sing Staccato – Sing with Sharp short notes. It should sound choppy and quick.
Pat on Every Other Word – Pat your hands on lap as you sing every other word.
Extension Activities:
- Sugar Cookie Hunt – Hide the cookies all around the room or underneath the children’s chairs. Let a child hunt for a cookie (or check under their chair) as you sing through the song. Those that find a cookie can help you lead the music.
- Mix of Songs – Write different Easter or Primary Program song titles on the back of each of the cookies. Place the paper sugar cookies up on the board. Invite a child to come up and pick out a cookie and reveal the song selection.
- Memory Cookie Tray – Arrange all of the cookies on a cookie on a cookie sheet. Give them a minute to try to memorize all of the cookies included on the cookie sheet. Then, cover the cookie sheet with a towel or put them into a cardboard box pretend oven. Ask them to recall one of the cookies that they saw on the tray. Pull that cookie out of the oven and sing that song. How many can they remember?
