Every Star is Different Pictures of Children Sort
Sing through Every Star is Different once, before introducing this activity.
Post an assortment of pictures of children on the board. You can use the pictures I’ve included or invite children from the room to come up front or flip through a magazine to find pictures to use!
Explain that this song talks about our unique differences being a wonderful thing that makes us unique and ourselves! Heavenly Father created each one of us. Isn’t it amazing and wonderful to see how beautiful and different each child is? Let’s pair each of these children with a line of the song.

Write the lyrics on the board or use the keyword only cards here. Let the children in the Primary room match each of the pictures in any order they feel is best. Then sing through the song.
Great, let’s try to sort them in another way. This time, can you sort the children from youngest to oldest? Invite a helper or two to sort the pictures while everyone else sings the song aloud. You did so good!
What’s different this time with the order? Did the children move around a lot? What way should we arrange the kids this time? Invite new helpers to help you sort the children in their choice of order.

Sorting Ideas: Don’t worry if they aren’t matched or ordered how you would sort.
Any combination works! They’ll use their best efforts to sort by what they notice.
- Sort by age – Youngest to Oldest
- Group by Gender – Boys vs Girls
- Group by Junior Primary vs Senior Primary
Extension Activities:
- Try singing in groups that match the sorting styles. Have the youngest class sing the first two lines of the song, then the next class, in order through the song, for example. When sorted by gender have someone point to each side of the board and switch back and forth singing boys vs girls.
- Write the lyrics with blanks, then fill in the keyword pictures in the missing spots!
- Print two of each picture and play a game of match! Can they find a pair of children that are the same?
