Every Star is Different – Star Match
Sing through Every Star is Different song once, before introducing this activity.
Ask the children if they can help you find matching different stars to pick a fun way to sing through this song. Invite a child up front to flip over any two cards as they seek a matching pair.
If they find a match, you’ll sing through the song again with the fun way to sing.
If they don’t make a match, you can simply invite another child or to get in even more song repetition you can sing through the song without a fun singing way.
Continue to hunt for matches and sing through the song with lots of repetition in a way that is still fun for the Primary children!
Star Singing Styles:
- Clap on Keyword – Clap on words that describe – diff’rent, bright, happy, meek, mild, shining, shining, brightly.
- Whisper Sing – Sing as softly as you can!
- Spin on the Last Word – Stand and spin and then sit back down on “can be you” and at the end of the chorus.
- Echo Sing – Have one side of the room sing one line, then the other side echo’s back either repeating the line or singing the next line of the song.
- Pat with the Beat – Pat on your lap following along with the beat with two pats per measure.
- Draw the Song in the Air – Use a finger and draw out shapes for the song in the air.
Extension Activities:
- Hide the star cards around the room instead and go on a hunt for the missing stars! Then, as they are found, you’ll sing through the song with that singing style.
- Use our master list of ways to sing ideas and let the kids pick a random way to sing from the list or idea slips!
- Hide the stars underneath the chairs where your Primary children will sit. Invite one row at a time to peek under their seat to see if they are your star singer! Invite them up front to help you lead. You could use a fun star wand to direct the music with or to adjust volume up and down with the wand.
- Repurpose the star cards to play a game of tic tac toe for another way to use the cards! Draw a simple grid on the board and print out 5 of two different star cards to use for your game with the ways to sing in the grid to choose as they play their star piece.
