Take on this twist on a classic hot potato game by bringing in an assortment of summer vegetables and build a little garden in your Primary room!
I’m so excited to share this activity, because I spent a whole bunch of time and created all the art myself! This was my very first attempt at digital art, and I think they turned out pretty great for a newbie! I hope you’ll love them too!
Garden Patch Song Review Game
How to Play:
Pick out one song or a mix of songs to review for Singing Time.
If using a mix of songs, write the song titles on the back of each of the vegetables. You can print and laminate the vegetables and then use a wet erase marker to write the titles and easily remove them to reuse the vegetables with different songs later.
Have a child come up to the board and “pick” one of the vegetables out of your garden bed. Prepare to sing the song related to the vegetable they have picked.
Have the child bring the vegetable with them back to their seat. Pass the produce from child to child as you sing and randomly pause the music. Have the child with the veggie sing (or say) the next word! Then continue with the music and passing your vegetables.
Extension Activities:
- Share the silly Vegetable joke for the vegetable they have picked from the garden. This just adds a little fun and the kids will love the puns!
- Hide the vegetables around the room and let the children “hunt” for the vegetables while you sing through a song. You can let them pick just one single vegetable that was previously hidden. Or, invite a child to step out of the room and hide all the vegetables. Let them collect as many as they can while you sing through the song!
- Bring in real produce and let the children pick and pass a real small pumpkin, onion, potato, carrot – and others!
- Display all the vegetables on the board or hide them within a bag or on the podium. Give the kids clues to help them guess which vegetable to pick next. You could include clues such as color, size, recipes the vegetable is used in, etc.
