Who doesn’t love fishing? Your Primary children will have so much fun with this darling Father’s Day themed Gone Fishin’ Singing Time activity! You can use it to sing through your song of choice or review a mix of songs with several ways to play this classic favorite kids game.
Gone Fishin’ Singing Time Game
You can use this fun activity to sing through your choice of a single song or two or to review a mix of songs. To review a single song, use the singing style cards below. To sing through a mix of songs write your song titles on each fish.
Invite a child to come up front and go fishing! You can make a pretend fishing rod out of a simple dowel and string with a magnet at the end. Or, simply put the fish on the ground or up on the board and let them pick a fish of their choice.
Reveal the singing style or song selection that goes with the fish selected.
Continue to pick fish and sing through your songs.
Gone Fishin’ Singing Styles:
- Sing with Fish Lips – Purse your lips into a kissy face
- Bend Side to Side – Lean right and then left with the melody
- Wiggle in Your Seat – Wiggle like a fish out of water in your seat
- Don’t Blink! – Can you keep your eyes wide open like a fish without blinking?
Extension Activities:
- Hide the fish around the room and go on a fish hunt! Sing louder as they get closer and closer to the fish. Then add the fish to your “fish tank” on the whiteboard.
- Put the fish underneath different chairs in the Primary room before you begin. Invite the children row by row to “go fish” and look to see if they have a fish under their chair! If they do, they get to come up to be your helper. They can pick a song, pick a singing style, or simply help you lead the song.
- Use the selected fish for dynamics. One fish might go fast/slow and change the singing speed. Another might swim high and low and change the volume. You can also use dynamics to hold out a note, sit/stand, sing choppy/smooth, etc.
