Here’s a fun Holy Places Dance Scarves singing time activity to help you easily teach this song in Primary in an engaging way! You’ll use a sequence of unique dance scarves actions for each line of the song as you teach your way through the song lyrics.

Holy Places Dance Scarves

Sing through Holy Places once, before introducing the Dance Scarves actions.

Demonstrate the actions for the first verse once as you all sing through the song again. Have the children try out the actions with an imaginary dance scarf.

Now, pass out the dance scarves. I like to have them under the teacher’s chair and let each teacher pass out the scarves to make it fast and easy.

Post the dance scarves pattern guide up on the board and have the children follow along with you as you sing and try out the actions together.

Invite the children to come up front class by class to lead the dance scarves action as they have mastered each of the moves. This will give everyone a chance to feel like a leader and show off what they have learned as you build their confidence. It also let’s you easily add in several more times of repetition with purpose!

Extension Activities:

• Add additional verses or the chorus after you have mastered the first verse.
• Use all the dance scarves action cards to let the children help you pick from all the actions which ones they would like to use through for each of the verses. This helps give them ownership over the pattern and makes it more meaningful!
• For an easier pattern, start by adding just one dance scarf action, such as waving up high. Continue that action through the first verse or until you call out “freeze!” Then, add a new action and continue to build up until you are using a variety of different actions as part of your pattern.
• In a large Primary – Make this a partner activity by pairing up two children. Have the children switch who’s turn it is with the dance scarf by verse or by switching each transition to a new action!
• In a small Primary – Make this an interactive group activity by standing in a circle. Between each of the actions, pass your dance scarf to your right and grab a new one from your left. Can you switch scarves without getting off track with the actions? This will be a fun and interactive way to use this actions sequence!
