This is a really fun and unique way to teach and review this sweet song, try this Holy Places Keyword Singing Styles activity! You’ll pick a keyword from the verse, then sing using a coordinating singing style!

We’re having so much fun teaching Holy Places (archives), it’s been great having a new song about the temple to teach to the Primary children! If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s one of the new songs and included on the Old Testament Come Follow Me song list!

Holy Places Keyword Singing Styles

Sing through Holy Places (flip chart here) once, before you introduce this activity. This is a great way to review the song before adding a challenge!

Invite a child to pick one of your keyword cards to select a singing style. There are different keyword singing style cards for each verse that are connected to a specific keyword. Ask the children to listen closely for the keyword as you sing along with the themed keyword singing style.

Continue to sing through the song as you pick out new keyword singing styles each time you sing.

At the end, share your testimony related to the verse you’re teaching, such as how the temple is a special place where you have felt the spirit. You can also emphasis how the things we do (such as being reverent, doing work, standing true, etc) helps us to make that space a holy place for us and changes how we can feel in each place.

Extension Activities:

• Don’t reveal the keyword – instead have the kids try to guess what word this action might relate to. If you’re using more than one verse, give them a hint of which verse the keyword comes from.
• Add directed listening questions to help you spot the next keyword to use as a singing style. For example, you might ask the children “Where is a place we can go where heaven touches earth?” Let’s sing and listen to see if you can hear the place. After singing through the verse – take their answers to the questions and then use that singing style as you sing. Then, start with a new directed listening question. This is a great way to stretch out the activity while teaching just 1 verse.

• Add an action for when they hear the matching keyword. You could have them quickly stand and sit back down or raise their hand.
• Print out two copies of each keyword singing challenge card. Place them all scrambled up on the board, face down. Play a game of match and try to find the matching keyword before using the singing style.
