I Feel My Savior’s Love Heart Attack Service Activity

Do you remember cutting out hearts and writing little notes and taping them to someone’s door before they heard your snickering outside? When I was in Young Women’s, we called this a “Heart Attack” and it was our favorite service activity!

This activity is a great way to teach primary children that one of the ways we can feel the Savior’s love is by sharing Christlike love for others. It’s a simple craft for kids that they can easily do while singing or listening to the song!

This activity requires a little bit of prep time. The biggest part of this activity is deciding who you want to “heart attack.” You may want to discuss with your primary presidency or even reach out to the Bishop to see if there is a family who needs some extra love.

You can choose to disclose the name of the family to the primary kids or keep it secret if you feel that is best. Cut out some hearts beforehand and have the kids color pictures or write notes during primary!

I’ve included a printable later in this post that contains a template with hearts of different sizes. Just print out and cut a bunch of hearts!

At the beginning of primary, take some time to review a verse or two of I Feel My Savior’s Love. Then, explain that one of the ways we can feel the Savior’s love is by serving others.

Give each teacher enough hearts for each child to have at least one. If they want to make more than one, that’s great! Sing the song again, this time having the children think of a compliment they could write on the heart.

Have the children write a positive message or draw a picture on the hearts. While they do this, have the pianist play the song in the background or prepare some music videos. This is a great way for the kids to be able to listen & learn the song as they serve others.

Activity Instructions:

  1. Before singing time, prepare a large number of multi-colored hearts. You can cut out the hearts beforehand to save some time!
  2. Discuss with your primary presidency any families in your ward or community who may need extra love and support. Choose one to two families to “heart attack!”
  3. At the beginning of primary, review the first verse of I Feel My Savior’s Love (flipchart here!)
  4. Introduce the activity by explaining that one of the ways we can feel the Savior’s love is by showing Christlike love to others through service!
  5. Pass out some crayons and hearts to each teacher to give to the kids in their class.
  6. Sing through the song again, this time inviting the children to think of some compliments or kind words to share with the family (you may choose to disclose the name of the family or not).
  7. After singing, give the children some time to color a picture or write a note on a few hearts. While they work on their hearts, have the pianist play the song. You might even choose to play a music video while they work.
  8. Take brief pauses throughout the activity to sing through a verse!
  9. Collect all the completed hearts at the end of singing time. After primary, deliver the hearts to the family!

Extension Ideas:

  • Instead of making hearts, heart attack the primary room before primary! Write each child’s name on a heart and tape them around the room. On the back of each heart, write a fun way to sing the song (we have lots of ideas in that post!)
  • While you sing, have the children write one way that they feel the Savior’s love on a heart. Have the children share their ideas and take home their hearts to remember during the week!
