You can easily teach this simple song with this I Pray in Faith Picture Order singing time activity. You’ll unscramble a series of pictures that relate to the keywords of the song as you discuss how to pray and why prayer matters with your Primary children.
I love that primary song I Pray in Faith (archives) is one of the included songs for the Old Testament Primary Songs list for Come Follow Me this year! It’s such a sweet and impactful song teaching the children about how to pray and why prayer matters.

I Pray in Faith Picture Order
Sing through I Pray in Faith once, before introducing this activity.
Post the keyword icon pictures up on the board all out of order. Invite a child to come up front and try to put as many of the pictures in order as you sing through the verse.

Continue to invite new helpers to rearrange and put all the cards back in order as you sing through the song 2-3 times until you have them all correctly placed or scramble the cards and try sorting them again!
Ask the children, how does kneeling change the way that you pray? Take a few answers. Let’s kneel together as we sing through the song again.
Next, point out the word speak – have you ever said a personal prayer out loud? How does speaking our prayers change the way we pray? Let’s try speaking the song lyrics this time, instead of singing.

Ask if any of the children have ever received an answer to a prayer? Take a few answers and stories. Those are great examples! Bear a simple testimony that you know that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers.
Challenge the children to make an effort to kneel and pray out loud every day this week and see how it changes your relationship with Heavenly Father.

Extension Activities:
- Hide the keyword pictures under the children’s chairs to randomly pick your helpers or hide them around the room to add another fun element.
- Add a fun action to coordinate with the keyword icons after you have unscrambled the picture order. This might look like kneeling for “kneel,” hold your hands to cup your mouth for “speak,” hold your hands over your heart for “answers,” and make prayer hands for “pray.”
- Write the lyrics to the song up on the board with blanks for each of the icon pictures. Ask the children if they can name one of the missing keywords. Then, hand them the matching picture and let them add it to its missing spot in order.
- Let the children pick one of the keyword icons that are meaningful to them and why. Ask a leading question related to each keyword.
