In this I Want to Be a Missionary Now Word Wave Cards you’ll recreate that experience with a fun letters puzzle to unscramble keywords.
I Want to Be a Missionary Now Word Wave Cards
Sing through I Want to Be a Missionary Now (flip chart to help here!) once, before introducing this activity. I love to sing through the song once as a cue to transition to a new activity and refresh the words before you introduce an interactive teaching element.
Invite 5 kids to come up front and hold a letter card for you. If you have a very small Primary, you can use 3 helpers instead and spread out the cards evenly.
Share the secret word with your helpers, for example whisper “Missionary” to them. Instruct your helpers to raise their word cards in order from the first child down the row like you would do a “wave” in a baseball arena. They’ll raise their card then quickly lower it – showing their letter cards for just a few moments.
Have another child come up and choose any two helpers to switch places. The goal is to get the word in the correct order. When you get the word in the correct order, add the word cards to the board and start over with the next word puzzle and new helpers!
Extension Activities:
- Add an action for the keywords once you’ve unlocked the word cards.
- Missionary: Quickly stand and sit when you sing “Missionary”
- Testimony: Pat right and left on your lap for every note.
Pat R-Pat L-Pat R-Pat L on “Testimony” - Happiness: Dab as you sing “Happiness”
- Restored: Clap-Clap with the notes while you sing “Restored”
- Gospel: Stomp on each note – Stomp-Stomp as you sing “Gospel”
- Unscramble the song title together – then share ways you can actually be a missionary now, even as young Primary aged children.
- Hide the letter cards around the room and hunt for them and collect them up on the board. Then, work together as a Primary to put them in the correct order.
